My friend sent me this
Beautiful pictures! Not much snow in London but very iced up sidewalks. They have a bit of grit down so those of us with one leg can keep upright.
Love red cats! My Gram had one called MR. HUNTER though he had four legs so not as interesting footprints in the snow. (Speaking of monopods I noticed Heather Mills McCartney is going to be a contestant on 'DANCING ON ICE'! Love her or hate her that is going to be a scary business. I have to inch up the street not to fall on the gritted ice crusted sidewalks at the moment and I grew up in Canada skating when I had two legs. You have to use your ankles when you skate and a prosthetic ankle does not bend. I do not think she should have been booked for this show. She should know what she is doing but... Skating is one thing but dancing on ice is impossible for an amputee to do safely.)
In lots of Canada there are years when the snow is 13 feet high and it is 40 below to 100 below with wind chill and very rarely would a school close. The plows get out and clear everything right away and people shovel their own snow and grit too.
If you walk in that weather your eyelashes grow long with white frost and the edges of your hair go frosty from warm breath. If you run your lungs freeze.
No one seems to have winter tires in England or use anti-freeze. There's no snow blowers and no one carries an emergency kit like a shovel to dig yourself out. If you are caught in a car somewhere and you have a candle it is enough to stop you dying of hypothermia.
There are a huge number of flights cancelled or delayed and people having too much to drink getting on delayed flights. Some flights are kept on the runway and they won't let the passengers off for hours. A bit worried as I have relatives travelling this way at the moment.
We have a small roof terrace and I went out today to find my potted rose bush had produced a single yellow rose in all this frost!

Hi and thanks for the photos - where the photos taken somewhere in Northumberland ?
It has also been very cold and snowy in East London.Said to be coldest winter in the UK for thirty years.
Now I am certain I know why I left the UK to live in Thailand. Seen enough cold weather in my lifetime to wean me off it! Looks nice - feel 'orrible! Makes nice piccies, but frozen mits. Ta! for good photos - and memories, I dont miss it!
Great pics, thanks for the effort.
Looks beautiful but cold.
