A day out on the canal and a bought a doer upper

Went to visit a mate today on a canal and check out his new home, a 58 foot barge.

Very nicely kitted out in an idyllic location.

After a few beers he said a neighbour was selling a canal cruiser that needed some work for £200.

Seemed like a good idea at the time

Captain Chitty needs a catchy name for my new vessel..

Complete with solar panel and captains wheel..

I fear I may need a sustained and substantial supping session at that Brewery before I attempt restoration.
I will have buy a trailer and towbar before the trip back to Captain Chitmeisters chez crib.

Then the refit and high powered engine will be fitted for my trip to Anglesey the sunshine Isle next Summer (I know I'm optimistic about the Summer).

    Good one!

    It's already half way there.

I need to get it towed to somewhere where I can ramp it out with a trailer before winter.
This will involve going through several locks so will be a time consuming process unless it sinks when I unleash the mooring ropes.
Then I'll just fvvk off quick sharpish and deny all knowledge of said boat and incident.

My brother has a long/narrow boat they seem to enjoy sailing around England. Always looks like plenty of places to stop for refreshments.

The way of life is very laided back, the average speed of a canal barge or boat is 3mph, it's quicker to walk!

I wonder how long or if it's possible to traverse the UK canals from the North West of England to the Norfolk Broads???

It's a lovely idea, messing about on the river. Or the canal. Do you have a mooring or a C&RT licence? Probably cheaper to sink it.

I think it'll be "moored " with JAG on driveway not so much for travel but on TINDR to promote horizontal jogging weekends.
He's a lovely fellow just needs to learn his aft from his elbow.

Remeber every night he lies in bed throbbing like so many chaps at the prospect of Manchester City being tossed orf into the nether regions and having to sit next to Baggies Boys next season

You are in are thoughts and dares.

PS One thing they do know about aside from pies ale and dogs in Saffordshore is KNOTS, its even on their shield The Knotty!

Good to learn a few simple ropes.

PPS there are no brakes on boats so steering and slow aft fore play a useful skill.

I recall a friend was on a narrow niche when a naked young lady came rushing towards him , he said he didn't know whether to toss himself off or block her passage (Max Miller The Bleu Book of course)

They say that the two happiest days of a boat owner's life are the day they buy it, and the day they sell it.

So Chitty, you can make us both happy!

This hasn't moved for a while... and free for you only, but you have to collect.

You won't need a trailer either.

Wot no more YT videos of you casting a net from it?

Not a bad idea to have that vessel HMS MENDY towing behind for the inevitable scuttling of HMS Chitty and insurance claim.
I'm sending my plane to collect it now, will be a while..

What kind of engine is your luxury yacht currently propelled by? Is it an inboard or outboard?

It's propelled by the currents presently.

I need an outboard motor for it!

Something substantial that makes it do wheelies snd cause tide waves along the canal washing all the hikers away without it actually sinking.

    150 hp should do it.

Use it for a tender, you know it makes sense.

I'll even throw in my Captain's hat, but no way you get Anna.

Okay okay, job lot... I'll throw in the wife as well, I can't say fairer than that. I reckon she'd quite enjoy boating.

Champion effort Chtty. Looks like it could be christened The Black Pig II with that creosote finish...

In honour of Master Bates, Roger the Cabin boy and the crew...

It is alway importune for even the novice matelot to look his best esp when piping that special friend aboard.

To keep you number eights ship shape and Bristol fashion Seaman Staines recommends Omo, brook no substitutes.
