I sort of feel cheated a bit in life. I never rode a bus to school. They had them but I was not on a route that they would go so I would have to walk to the bus stop ( 1mil away) so I always rode my bike as it was a BMX style and I rode the trails along the river. It was about a 3 mile ride. I used to always get to school for that bus. When it rained sometimes my Dad would give me a ride but I was SOL to get home. Later he got a pick up truck so I would toss the bike in the back and he would throw me out and say "Be home before dinner". The only time I got to ride on a bus was school field trips and I always thought the bus drivers were creepy old fkrs so nice job on the new career path Dil. No more pink flamingo's in the pool for you.

BTW. while I never drove a bus, I was a UPS ( like Fed Ex) long haul truck driver. I went through their truck driving school and used to take a double from Northern California Hub to the Southern California hub and back. I was doing it as a side job as the company I was working for at the time was a 3 day on 4 day off shift (The good ol semiconductor days). So on the 4 days off I would make a run. Pay was great and it ate up 2 days. At that time all UPS trucks had throttle governors so you could not go over 60mph. Once I would get out on the big interstate, I would knock me back a big caffeine drink and just wood the thing to the floor board and hold it until my leg would cramp up then switch feet.

^^ great to hear she made the transition OK, kids are pretty resilient. Best move you could have made for her education wise so good on you. I agree re the seasons, seems to have been colder longer this winter than recently.

As was said, Good on you to get her in proper education. I have always felt that Thailand is a great place to come live it out and make your money work for you and enjoy the lawless lifestyle but kicking out a child or 2.....Well that's not so good. It significantly complicates things because deep down inside you always want more for your children.

I have watched that Ice Trucker show. Crazy loons those guys are. I mean its bad enough to put chains on a car. Imagine spinning up a dual axle with them things in -35 degree weather. I do not care how many pieces of clothes you can put on, you are never even close to warm. Just ask that loon Fish. He lives out in the frozen tundra weather.

I want pics of that Flamingo burning. I tried to "Accidently" destroy that big yellow duck thingy my wife bought. Damn thing is virtually indestructible.

Funny thing about that. I worked as teamster in a freezer grocery warehouse. It was a regional distribution hub, so it was big. We drove around on electric hand trucks and built pallets of frozen food to be loaded on to trucks and delivered to grocery stores. That place was kept a constant -30c. The thing is that when you are constantly moving and working the body generates its own heat. I found that I couldn't wear too many layers as I got hot and would sweat. What would happen is as soon as that sweat was in my hair it would instantly freeze. Every time I would take my 15-minute break or lunch all of it would melt. It was insane how much of it would run off the top of my head. I wound up keeping a towel in my locker, so I could just towel off on every break.

I did that job in my mid-twenties and only lasted there about 6 months. I couldn't see doing that for the rest of my life.

These were still going around in the mid/late 80's when I lived in London.

    Great fun to hop on/off

We used to have a competitive coming back from school on those, who could jump off when the bus was at its fastest.
Funny as fvck watching some big head jump off at 20mph then go flying through a privet hedge.

The great thing about that bus is the smell inside. I dunno if it's the rubber but new cars don't smell like that anymore

Did anyone see the movie when they went to Pontins in North Wales?

I took the family there for a weekend a couple of years back and they had an "On the Buses" fan/appreciation club.
We woke one morning to a group of happy snappers and a tour guide outside our chalet.
Apparently our chalet featured in the movie.

Hahaaaaaaa, at least I think that's how you spell his laugh.

Seriously though Dill, if you get the chance when lockdown is over take your daughter to a Butlins or Pontins.

They are magic for kids at that age, we used to go a few times a year for a decade and it really built their confidence entering talent shows etc.
The entertainment is quality also with live bands, magic shows all television standard.

Also its like the budgie, its cheap.

Sadly mine are too grown up for it all now but we have loads of happy memories.

    The graveyard shift

I saw an icecream van out on its rounds today.

It was eleven degrees but feels funking warm after that cold snap.

    Thinking of buying a tent

Not a lot of musings about the UK from the hairy arsed bus driver...

Do you have to enforce mask wearance for passengers? If so, what if they don't like it? Are you issued with a faser?

Have you introduced your lovely daughter to Greggs yet?

Any good local ciders in Brum?

What's the general feeling about Bristol City sacking their manager? More likely to go up to the Premiership this year or not?
