We're averaging 10-11 miles a day. Today was 10,5 m with a bit under 600 metres of ascent.
Sunrise at 8am. Sunset 4pm. With a few stops for food and tea we are working hard to maintain the pace.
pubs are closed in Wales and food options are limited. Tonight was a microwave sausage n mash ready meal. Fortunately we have cognac and chocolate.
We had some snow on the jubilee tower hill, otherwise, so far so good. When shopping for a brew it's easy to get vert cold. Hat, gloves essential. Im walking in shorts but five layers under a heavy sailing jacket.
The climb out of Welshpool
14.5 miles with full packs today. We set out about 30 minutes before sunrise. Arrived 315 pm. Rain all day. On the higher elevations it felt like the retreat from Stalingrad. Soaked through. I need less absorbent shorts.
is it missing the roast? or was it really that bad?
Hay on Wye was a good opportunity to take a rest day and opportunity to get some better equipment before the 18 mile stretch on the Black Mountains.
We left just before dawn for the 1500ft climb. Winds of 30 mph and heavy rain make it very unpleasant. We camped at 230pm to give time to make fast descent if it was untenable.
Morning visitors. ^
it was a long and not entirely comfortable night
the views thevnext day compensated. We had an easy 7 mile hike along to Pandy.
