    Lake District Walk

Here are some pics of my lil stroll up Blencathra in the Lake District with a mate.
Not much to see at the top this time of year except snow..

    Very nice, SP.

How far did you walk and how cold was it at the top?

    Great bunch of photos.

That weather and terrain, believe it or not, can be a welcome respite to the oppressive Thai heat. If you got a good jumper, coat, boots, a flask of hot tea & a country pub or chip shop to head for, you're laughing. Unless you get caught in a storm.

I'm in London & Cornwall for 3 weeks end of the month and I plan to do a couple of trecharous coastal path walks a week, probably alone (as my dad had a heart attack 2yrs ago and won't be able to keep up).

Best walk is 9 miles from Portreath to Hayle. Takes about 6hrs due to the terrain. And you gotta finish it by 4.30pm as it gets dark.

^^Many pubs allow sensible and well behaved dogs in.

Darren or Kevin the tattooed chav and his staff bull terrier or pitbull would get turned away, for example

Lot's to like in the first image ... I reckon you nailed it.

BTW ... any images of the boots you walked in.

They would have to be special to cope with the cold and the wet.

Try Scafell Pike to Hellevian next time your back in the UK Puntski, not for the faint hearted,

Probably the most dangerous 15 mile walk in the UK, even more so at this time of the year with avalanches and white outs.

Did you use crampons on your Karrimor boots?

Always good to see one of those pesky photo threads get trumped, CCC.
I'm sure you had superior Kendall mint cake too.

    Very nice Punty.

Think I'd rather do it in the summer. Bit too sludgy for me flip-flops.

Damn nice to get a bit o' freshness after Thailand.

    Thanks for the pics.

Chitty did what Chitty does, and nicked the pics (*ahem*) off google.

Just right click and select 'Search google for image'.

    Well done Chitty.

Very nice Punty, the pub grub and beer at the end, makes it even more worthwhile.

Great stuff, wandered over those fells in the summer and doubt I could in the snow safely alone anymore, do they have ST Bernard's with killer brandy or girk guides with mintcake on draft ! The lakes inspired Wordsworth

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

    A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way,

    They stretched in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could not but be gay,

    In such a jocund company:

    I gazed—and gazed—but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

    Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

    And dances with the daffodils.
