What kind of saddle are you rockin Joe?

I have abdicated any further walnut crushing punishment and gone for a padded seat with springs.

It may only work well with my upright posture from my raised handlebars, I am not sure.

This may feel akin to straddling a razor blade, a trip to decathlon for some new padded shorts may be in order.

With a snap, cackle and a pop I ventured out for some blood, sweat and tears.

Well it's rude not to when the sun is shining and the temp is in double figures.

I think it's safe to assume that Spring is finally here.

These boats look like live aboards but there are no gangplanks. How do they get in and out of their house?

They just step on and step off.
They are very close to the towpath.
A colleague of mine Iives on one full time, it's a very different laid back lifestyle.
He paid £64,000 for a 57footer and pays £2.500 a year for the his isolated prestige moorings.
Has a log burner and solar panels.
Has access to communal water etc.
Has aback up diesel generator for winter.
The finish on the interior of his canal boat is outstanding and the views are priceless.

Plus the views can change if you fancy a leisurely trip along the waterways network, just don't be in a hurry as they chug along majestically at an eye-watering 5mph.

He got divorced from his Chinese wife, sold the house and moved to this view with his dog at a sprightly 67 years young.

The view from my mates barge Kitty..

That’s awesome. Are they connected to municipal sewage or ?

I lived on a houseboat for a few years. It was magical.

Yeah, it's all included in the moorings fee.

    Cool, got any pics?

I thought it was just the UK that had barges/residential river boats.

There are several houseboat communities in the US. Not sure if any are on rivers or canals but do exist on bays and lakes.

The houseboat I lived on in Richardson Bay in Sausalito, California.

The couple who built it were a carpenter and a stained glass artist. It is really a work of art.

This is a pic from the internet which is easier to find than going though all my pics to find one but still looks the same.

    Idyllic Kitty!

I bet you could drop a fishing line sat on those chairs and catch dinner.

I feel lucky to have lived there. There was no fishing off the back porch for two reasons. Number one is all you could catch were smelt and they were full of pile worms so not appealing for dinner. Two, though the boats at the piers were tied into county sewage, there were out anchors in that area of the bay that dumped untreated waste into the water. There was never a bobbing turd seen but they must have been around. Low tide was…smelly.

Any fishing I did was from a dory far out on Richardson Bay away from shore.
