Tip top ride out for a couple of hours today.

Ventured up North West Derbyshire and got some cracking pics.

    The Goyt valley..

    Cooling off briefly..

One for the horticulturists amongst us, summer feels like it's finally here..

First of the 25% gradients, had to walk up the last part of this bad boy..

Pit stop at the top and i captured this cheeky Shire horse attempting to arfinch the last of my water.

Of course i let it have it, well it was a hot day.
    Like bottle feeding a baby...

    Views are nice up here..

Thought the mad mare lying down was dead, turns out she was catching some rays.
Never seen a horse lying down in a field like this before.

Bumped into an old TD member on the way back, "He said to say hi. Also if anyone wants their drive tarmacking, then it's £50 and three large Chang".

He's doing well for himself that static looks palatial.

    Nice work Changster.

Spring sprung out of nowhere, didn't it.

Nice BTWIN. Saddle's a bit high. Are you seven feet tall?

I've actually got a sun tan this week!

Risked a couple of rides without the helmet on for vitamin e's sake.

Had to pick a lot of flies out of my teeth today, got some good pace up downhill and broke a few speed limits.

Tried to take a pic of a speed camera as i was blasting through but it got a bit hairy.

Slipstreamed a Holland's pie van for a couple of miles also, another good video opportunity.

Going to have to get some sort of helmet camera for this summers trips.

Fell asleep in the greenhouse when i was a kid, it's the biggest frame and maximum seat height i could buy

You pulled that puncture raining Hawthorne out of your tyre yet?

Another few hours in the saddle today.

Visited the home off the Lancaster and Vulcan bombers today and had a blast around the once largest runway in Europe, sadly no more and soon to be a new village..

All the old hangars have been demolished.

Once upon a time this bad boy would have been an Argentinians worst nightmare, now held up with scaffolding like the rest of the British aviation manufacturing industry.

Hit a pot hole today and gained a nice puncture rubber necking at this number plate..

    The double irony

Luckily some kind hearted fellow cyclist came to my aid with a spare inner tube, he didn't want anything for it and just said "Pass on the karma"

This evenings ride up the hills and down the dales..

A geologist or climbers wet dream..

The valley's were full of the aroma of wild garlic and also slightly tainted blue with Bluebells..

Found a fresh water spring, good job as i'd ran out.

    The hills have eyes..

Fooking hard graft this hill riding, two hours up and 15 minutes down.

This strange little house in the middle of nowhere had an antique water tap outside, time for some more rehydration..

Time for the protein feast, well earned..

    Perfect.

Just back from an hour myself after a hard day at the orifice. These sunny evenings out a-wheel are good for the soul.

I just checked via google maps and i climbed just over a 1000 feet.
The journey was about a 20 mile round trip.
Will have to get some data logging technology on the bike, what do you recommend?

There are quite a few good GPS based bike computers on the market now, with Garmin probably being the most popular. Go into the Bike Radar website, I seem to recall a recent article on their top picks in different price ranges (just found the link: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/a...cycling-43224/ ).

Open a Strava account (free) and sync your rides into that. It will keep a history of your rides as well as dafa comparison with other riders if your interested.

I'm using a Garmin Edge 520, which is a great all rounder, and also connects via bluetooth to my phone for call and message.alerts. I also have it's predecessoe, the 510 which is also very good but I prefer the 520's push button controls over the 510's touch screen.

Once you decide what to go.for, check.out eBay for possible bargains.

Yep, Garmin all the way. You can get a Garmin 200 for around 50 pounds. But the 500s are down to about 80 now. Mine's been going strong for over 7000 miles. Here it is outside a little café it in Hereford.

And here's how I got to that little café in Hereford.

Cheers for the info PAG and Slap.
Shall treat myself and start upping my game.
Also considering proper clip on shoes and pedals as I heard a few times that they make a difference.

A few more pics from today's ride out on the Manchester/Derbyshire border..

If you're going to go chopping down trees then creating a sculpture out of the trunk is a dammed fine idea.

Plenty of locks on this part of the canal.

Two hours to get through all these locks according to a captain today.

    One for the buffalo board.

These three were communicating via nodding, funny as fook.

    Another tree trunk sculpture..

One growing out of the rocks..

The tides in and the weather is cool, let's get peddling..

Presthaven Sands is nice but then you travel through Rhyl where only two languages are spoken - Evertonian and Liverpudlian. Best keep peddling while i've still got my wheels..

Easy going ride with reasonable scenery..

    Conway Castle in the distance..

Sun and the tide is coming out, plenty of rubber necking opportunity's..

Plenty of bike hire places along the route..

The white sands of Rhos on Sea..

It's nice to escape for an hour or two a few times a week.
