Would be interesting to know just how Lonely Planet compiled those statistics since I don't see Kent being on the list of travelers other than UK residents?

    Christ.

    Holidaying darn sarf in Margate.

    Looks fantastic.

Here's a list of great things to do.

    What’s on

Events galore in Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate

World-class art exhibitions and sports contests. Festivals celebrating folk music and great food and drink. The diaries of Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate events merit a closer look.

Year-round, it's well worth building a short break around some of the best Kent events. At Margate's cutting-edge Turner Contemporary look out for international exhibitions, talks, gallery tours and art workshops for children and adults.

Don't-miss annual events including Broadstairs Folk Week; seven days of top-quality acts performing all over town, now in its 50th year. The three-day Broadstairs Food Festivalsees gourmets flock to the resort. While June's Broadstairs Dickens Festival is a literary-led, costume character-filled, Victoriana-infused delight.

The sand-dusted Margate Masters volleyball tournament overflows with Britain's top players and have-a-go courts. In July, Ramsgate Week sees international sailors competing off the resort in a regatta to rival Cowes. Just a few weeks later Ramsgate's Summer Squall brings a feast of film, drama and dance to town.
August brings an explosion of colour and sound, as Margate’s vibrant, annual carnival procession snakes through the town over Margate Soul Weekend.

Learn more about our coastline with the Thanet Coast Project. The uber-cool GEEK gaming festival brings talks, workshops and hands-on sessions to Margate in February
In September discover more about Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate's fantastic architecture and culture during Heritage Open Days
Broadstairs in June marks the 200th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Waterloo, with a ‘New Waterloo Dispatch’ passing through the town on the way to London
Thanet's cinemas range from 10-screen multiplexes to art house independents. Top theatresinclude: Margate's Winter Gardens, Tom Thumb Theatre and prestigious Theatre Royal; Ramsgate's Granville Theatre; and the Sarah Thorne Theatre Company in Broadstairs

Got friends who rave on about Margate all the time.

IMHO it's a shit hole with the only good quality being the road out of it.

Gimme Blackpool any day of the week. Nothing like Kiss Me Kwik hats, the stench of burgers and bitter, and the squelch of a fresh turd underfoot as you brave the icy brown waters of the Irish Sea.

Visiting family in Folkestone, kent today. Walked from Folkestone to Dover along seafront on a falling tide Absolutely marvelous. Even had a swim along the way.

Train back to folkestone was $4.80 Nice cup of tea to rest up at station cafe to arrive back in Folestone just in time for a pint of Master Brew at the local a few minutes' walk across local fields

Then a 30 minute walk to the local across fields

Top family holiday destination, I know that the Allhallows Caravan Park in Medway Kent is popular with visiting families from Holland and Germany because it is close to London for day trips to the City.

Margate in England is boring. In Margate, Queensland we have:
    Cane toad cricket.
Mosquito tennis(1000 volt racquet supplied, double points for Dengue fever mossies and triple points for ross river fever mossies. lose a point for each bite).
Collect the most poisonous snakes in your backyard competition.
Then down to the beach for more fun. Its into the lovely warm ocean for:
Don't step on the stone fish,
    Count the poison jelly fish.
Dodge the sea snakes and outswim the sharks.
We know how to have real fun.

I remember staying in a caravan park just outside of Rochester. Found a lovely little pub called the Robin Hood. Met some lovely people. Still friends over 30 years later. Very fond memories of Kent.
