    49 Years and Celebrating.

Really close now. The big Golden in a years time.

So we spent a few days in London.

Made a nice change, bitter cold most of the time though.

Left Preston on a Virgin First Class, two hours, fifteen minutes later we were in a taxi heading for the hotel.

It doesn't get much better than that for service.

Nice deal with the Hotel, we used The Cavendish on Jermyn Street.

Nice place a favourite of The Churchill family
including a young Winston, and later on in life
    also.

Rooms are somewhat on the small size. But for a Hotel nicely
situated on the corner from Piccadilly it's how they are.

Just perfect for us as it worked out.

We weren't intending doing anything special,
a few good walks, and boy did we walk.

About 10 miles average each day.

Piccadilly to The Tower Bridge, a jaunt over to The Shard.
A spin over the roof tops on The London Eye. Really nice.

Eros looking good as it should do.

Good to see The London Bus bearing the Volvo name,
we all know it's Brtish Leyland in a manner of speaking.

As long as we keep to to ourselves, nobodies any the wiser.

Some megga work going on underground with a massive
regeneration of The Tube. This has been going on for some
years now by all accounts should be very elaborate when everything
    is done and dusted.
London Mayor Boris Johnson has said £1.3tn of investment is needed in the capital over the next 35 years in order for London to retain its world class status.

Transport is the biggest focus of the "London Infrastructure Plan 2050", and £973bn of spending is needed on transport alone to keep up with the rising population and number of people working in the capital.

Some plans are already in progress, others might not happen at all, but here are some of the transport developments suggested for London by 2050.

    1. Thames Estuary airport, 18bn-25bn

In the report, Johnson suggests an airport located on the Thames Estuary as his preferred option for increasing aviation capacity, and should be opened by 2029.

It would also be supported by a high speed link to central London and an extension to Crossrail from Abbey Wood to Ebbsfleet, with road and rail connections to support access expected to cost an additional £19bn.

The Davies Commission, the government group set up to look at all options for increasing aviation capacity in London, has yet to make any conclusions however, despite Boris' clear preference for an airport in the Thames Estuary to the East of the city.

    A lot on the go.

This building used to be The Regents Palace Hotel.

Conversion of Regent Palace Hotel into £300m retail development completed

Quadrant 3, the latest development in the Crown Estate's £1bn revamp of Regent Street includes 200,000 square feet of office space over seven floors

It's obviously being well taken care of now.

A few apartments for rent ranging from £800..00 to £1400..00 per week.

    This is a prime location.
All the women take their blouses off
And the men all dance on the polka dots
    It's closing time !

There's a pretty young Flobo with 49 years looking after me on
    the steps as well.

Seems like yesterday in a manner of speaking.

One of The Liberal MP's being interrogated by The ITN News.

    All Politics now.

Filmed, recorded and transported anywhere they want to send it.

We couldn't help but notice and appreciated, just how clean The Capital is.

    Massive improvements all round.

    Well done Boris.

Not a bit of litter anywhere.

Constantly being well and truly maintained.

    All of it.

Improvements of such a high calibre are outstanding.

    They're not 'litter Police' either.

    Admiralty Arch.

Prime Investors Capital (PIC) leased the building last year for 99 years for £60m with a view to converting the space into a 100-bedroom five-star hotel.

However, the proposals have hit problems in the past few days after planning officials at Westminster City Council reportedly raised concerns over the provision of social housing.

PIC proposed contributions of £600,000 for affordable housing, well below the “policy compliant” sum of £1m, the Financial Times claimed.

Westminster City Council gave the scheme the green light at a meeting last night after agreeing to the £600,000 figure, sources told the Daily Telegraph.

“This is an exciting application that will return an iconic piece of London’s architecture to its full glory,” said Councillor Robert Davis, Westminster City Council deputy leader.

I think Horatio will be pleased with what he sees.

    London's Trafalgar Square, is special.

Getting ready to 'nab' somebody else no doubt.

I think Yoda is hoping to get elected.

    Soaring above the rest.

Always something going on in London.

    "I tell you no lies"

Get on with it man, folk are freezing to death out here!

A few quid going into the bucket as well.

    I'm sure Nelson was tutting!

    Another great view.

I'm glad we didn't drive down.

Check these prices out for overnight parking.

Fuel, the journey, congestion charges and traffic jams.

    No thanks.

Thanks for the pics, Mathos. Congratulations on the 4-9.

My parents wanted to have a big celeb for their 50th. Sadly, my dad passed away just a month shy of their 46th. I've other friends whose parents celebrated their 45th last year. The parents celebrated the 4-5 because they didn't know if they would still be alive for the 5-0 (the dad had a bout of TB some years before).

Cheers and many more happy years to both of you!

I was just thinking it never rains does it? just Fooking pours. I had an idea it was TB, she hates smoking but recently coughs like a long term puffer and both her parents died of TB. Because its the sensible thing to do, I made by old biking buddy and wife Fon the care of my daughters so at least we know they will be well cares for.
Sorry to bust in on Mathos fine thread.

Sorry to hear that Peter, it's a bit of a bugger is life at times.

TB can be a vicious illness as well,
I know the treatment is quite demanding
and not always beneficial. I'm very lucky in
having Flobo, she's more than brilliant, looks
well after me and keeps me in check, which is no
    bad thing at all.

One of us here from the early days. About 1971/2 with our eldest daughter.

Amazing how the years pass by so quickly.

Elder daughter has 3 sons, the eldest being 27.

One of them, he's 24 just got back from a wild weekend in Amsterdam.

Dear me, Granny Flobo is turning grey with them!

Hardly seems possible so much has happened, and so quickly.

Take care Peter, I really wish you well.

    Some fancy China in London.

Hard to believe how so much beauty as well as detail
can be reflected in such a unique display.

There always seems to be an Oriental influence associated with the
    style and beauty.

    This was beautiful.

We had some outstanding meals and excellent
    wine whilst we were away.

    Tasty Salmon starter here.

Whilst Flobo had an exceptionally nice beetroot and goats cheese.

Looks better on the close up.

    The Duck was exceptional.

So was Flobo's Cod with a herb topping of megga proportions and taste.

    Afternoon tea in The Ritz.

    Special occasion.

The City is special, it doesn't stop for a minute.

I couldn't help but think these Gates to Green Park,
would weigh in for a bob or two.

We have a lot to appreciate.

A lot to take care of as well.

These lads and lasses are well tooled up.

Cyril The Squirrel having a bit of a rummage in St James Park.

Looked like he was half crossed with one of our Reds!

    Strange colouring in any event.

    This was unreal though.

Mid morning and Reynard is popping down to the
back door of No 10 Downing Street for his breakfast.

Any chance of an extra sausage or two today Dave?

If I hadn't seen it and took the pic myself,
I'd have serious doubts over this.

    Outstanding though.

Plenty of action on The Thames.

We were going to take a lift up The Shard.

It was in the clouds though.

    Never mind, another time.

Some fancy boats and offers, three course meals and more besides.

    Or simple Fish and Chips.

    Take your pick.

    River Police.

Time Team might have found something.

Thumbs up and get a pic quick..The Tides coming in and quickly too.

Quite a bit going on around this old Wharf.

    Shakespeare's Globe on The Thames.

Located on the bank of the River Thames in
    Bankside's Cultural Quarter, Shakespeare's Globe
welcomes thousands of visitors to experience world
renowned productions of Shakespeare every day.

Plenty to see and do in London.

    Oi! No smoking up there.

Look careful you can see the cradle on The Shard about half way up, or down maybe.

    Good zoom on the Camera.

There's plenty of glass to take care of in London.

Don't mind a banger or two my self but the English type are not spicy enough for me. I much prefer the northern spicy sausage, there is a guy that sells them right over the road from our soi, for 20 bt a banger does me but then I am not a connoisseur like the gent, mind you the girls at Gulliver's seem to like their sausage English style.
