It really was. The interesting thing about it is that one of our friends is a manager who is working for The Olympics project. He knew everything that was going to happen and in which order, so he told us to get our cameras ready etc. Even he said it was outstanding. I really didn't know what to expect so I just took it all in and enjoyed it.

What made it more enjoyable was that we could hear the people in the stadium cheering, and the people in our building and in the buildings beside us. It was a real party atmosphere and everyone had a great time. Once I upload and post my videos, you'll see what I mean. I still get chills at some parts.

Great Thread Nats and well done. Some great photographs in your album.

I am going back again in December and will spend Christmas and New Year in the UK with the Missus and twins. I will be in that area so will probably do some shopping at Westfield when I am their. Even if its only for the Thai restaurant on the third floor of the Westfield Centre. There Somtam is great at 8 pounds 50 pence a pop.

Being from North of the border my missus want to go to the Highlands of Scotland for a week. Drive or fly/hire is the big question? My Mercedes CLS or a hire Vauxhall from Hertz at Glasgow Airport, comfort wise its a no-brainer, all she want is the twins to be able to play in the snow thats the real attraction.

Highlander, if you want the best Thai restaurant in London and probably the whole UK, hubby and I highly recommend The Pie Crust on Stratford High Street. They're open for breakfast and lunch, then they close in the afternoon and are open again for dinner. You can PM me for their details, like how to get there and their phone number etc.

As for Scotland, you can get really cheap flights. Start checking on line now. I think driving up would be ok in the summer, although this year the summer has been like winter. I went to Edinburgh and Glasgow in Late June and it was freezing and rainy.

You can PM me any time and I can give you good suggestions for Stratford, Greenwich and surrounding areas.

Wow what an incredibly lucky opportunity you had there, and thanks for sharing, I know it takes a lot of effort to put the pictures up. Brilliant!

(btw I didn't realise you were in the UK, be sure to watch BBC iPlayer - A Year in the Wild: The New Forest if you get time, it will give you some inspiration for the next time you visit)
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

    Hi Natalie,

Thanks for that. I know Stratford High St. quite well, my brother was in the Metropolitan Police and they had a Section House around the corner from their where the single Police Officers used to live. Not sure about the Pie Crust but I will find it when I go down there. Thanks for the offer it s appreciated.

Early December in Glasgow and driving in the Highlands is a different ball game all together. My plan was to take the Mercedes to Scotland then travel on the A82 out of Glasgow and drive all the way up to Oban right up through the valley of Glencoe a couple of days in Oban across to Skye visit a friend I work with here in Qatar and then drive back down to London over a two day period

Thanks, Mathos! It's the thought that counts. It seems like any time you try to green me, the system doesn't let you. No worries.

That's very true love, I don't exactly see the purpose in regulating how many times you can give somebody a green though.

Maybe, they think it could become the formation of a mutually good buddy complimentary egotistical private clique in the offering.

Then they'd need to get tough, like The Feds with David Koresh
and his clique at Waco in Texas.

So best keep quiet about it, or we will all be in 'serious trouble'

    The TeakDoor Mafioso is coming.

Ignoring the hundreds of individuals involved in helping to resolve the standoff, who were located in other cities such as San Antonio, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., there were a minimum of 719 law enforcement personnel committed on-site at Waco on any given day during the standoff.
Look out kid, they keep it all hid.

Give my best wishes to your brother. We need all good police officers.

And as it happened, I was in Glasgow so many years ago. long story off topic and the secret mods would love to finish me - not dd but serious pc bastards. Well, I drove south and no probs.

nostromo, I hope everything is ok now.

Thanks for posting Natalie... Good stuff.

The pundits beforehand were saying the best place to watch it is from your sofa on the telly... (not your sofa natalie)

I would have loved to have been there though for this once in a lifetime event.

Thanks, rawlins. This is a bit weird. We kept going back and forth from the TV to the balcony to get shots and through all of it, it was on track with a 3 second delay. Just this past weekend they replayednthe opening ceremonies but they cut a lot of it out.

For example they cut out many of the countries' athletes coming in. They went from A to USA then right to GB. I know this part went on too long but there were parts of the opening performance that could have been cut out, not the athletes.

And then at the end when the fireworks show was on, they kept showing footage of the sports in between the fireworks. It was a real shame that if you only watched this one, you missed most of the fireworks.

I have to admit, my videos of these are great. I still need to upload them. I've been having issues with this.
