The arts is a broad subdivision of culture, composed of many expressive disciplines. It is a broader term than "art", which as a description of a field usually means only the visual arts[1] (comprising fine art, decorative art, architecture and crafts). The arts encompasses visual arts, literature, the performing arts, including music, drama, film, dance and related media, and by some definitions other areas such as fashion.[2]

A precise definition of the arts can be contentious, but the following areas of activity usually are included:

The Nutcracker could be a real hit for some of our members depending on the bent.

Yep simple and appealing to the majority if the forum is to be successful.

I would suggest the forum focus on paintings, sculpture and photography. Performing arts already have a home in multimedia forum.

Some samples of content expected fro our membership.

    Indian Art

    Japanese Art

    Photographic Art

    Sculpture

The multimedia forum has been the repository for "Arts" type threads such as music and film. There's a "What book are you reading..." thread in there. Don't think there's a ballet thread in there anywhere, though. In effect, the multimedia forum is the "arts" forum. Chanign the name might make it more accurate; but we do have a forum for that stuff.Having it under computers might be a little misleading. I'd support moving & renaming it but the forum does exist, might not have been the idea from the get-go but that's what it has grown into.

I think mid really wants a ballet forum, can't they use the multimedia forum for that? also maybe a small subforum in the sports forum, "Cycling in Thailand" Show us your pictures of you in your bicycle shorts.

It is a popular subject and the bulk of the threads in "multimedia" really could be categorized as "Arts." One of the more delightful subjects of conversation where invective and abuse rarely come about. I do think it a good idea. We now get most "Arts" threads started in there but occasionally they will be started in the lounge, etc.

I think a move & rename would be cool, but the sub-forum for Photoshop... I think moving and renaming the forum is a good idea, but there would be a hole in the Comp forum, albeit a small one.
