Pic upload from computer is upside down or rotated the wrong way

Upload from computer doesn't post my image straight, it's upside down or rotated the wrong way

If I do it via Imgur then it's fine.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Nothing you're doing wrong.

Just crap forum software doesn't bother to check the orientation of the photos.

That's not practical when you're in a toilet cubicle.
Screen rotation on the phone suffices

Sometimes people take photos portrait and sometimes landscape. How would the forum know which was up the image is supposed to be?

When I have a photo up the wrong way on my computer, I open it using Window Photo Viewer. Then I rotate the photo to the way I want it, then click Next (right arrow). It then automatically saves the photo to the way you want it. It's quick and easy. Then upload to the forum.

Most (if not all) modern digital cameras and phones write EXIF data to the picture file. EXIF stands for Exchangeable Image File Format.

In addition to all the bits dedicated to the actual picture, it records a considerable amount of supplemental metadata as well.

This can include date, time, camera settings, rotation orientation and GPS co-ordinates.

The reason that on your computer, phone or tablet the photo appears up the right way, regardless of how you took the photo, is that the software in your viewer is reading the EXIF orientation data and rotating the picture to display it correctly.

Obviously, the forum software viewer isn't reading the EXIF data, and just displays it as it is.

Here's an example of some EXIF data from 2 photos.
    Note the different orientation.

It's also likely that lots of photos posted on TD do not contain EXIF data. I don't think any of my photos on TD contain much or any information and the train photo above by Pat (and at least one other photo of his) does not either - apart from the size, dimensions and the resolution, of course.

Maybe some genius on here can tell me why TD is the slowest forum i use, to load. Why it doesn't show most You tube videos Why it is almost impossible to edit out images uploaded. The site has become like molasses. This is 2018 things should be getting faster not slower. And no it is not me as TD (yes i go there) and other forums are OK or better.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

I just checked a photo that I had uploaded.
The original on my computer contains EXIF data, the uploaded version doesn't.
So it looks to me like the upload process strips the EXIF data out of the photo.
