    Weekend in Ayuttaya

Just got back from Ayuttaya, so I thought I'd share the weekend's action with you all.

Ayuttaya only takes about one and a half hours from my house and is quite an easy drive (just go north in a straight line until you hit it. Simple!). The traffic in Ayuttaya is pretty light - and the roundabouts are quite nice!

After a quick detour for breakfast we checked-in at the hotel. We stayed at the River View Place Hotel. They have really nice room for about half the price you'd pay in Bangkok or Pattaya.

The bed was very comfy and the room was clean and spacious.

    The swimming pool looked nice.

And it did indeed have a nice view of the river.

In the afternoon we met up with a couple of guys from Ajarn and went on a river tour of the ancient city.

Our pilot for the day was Khun Tip. The chap is one of the Ajarners.

    Luckily we had a map.

We stopped at the Elephant Kraal where they breed elephants and train them for work.

Next it was time for a picnic. We stopped at the old Portuguese settlement and picnicked on the pier.

Nearly home after about 4 hours in the boat. All for less than 1000B; it really is a great way to see some of the sights.

After sleeping off the red wine, it was time to go out. GoW (who didn't eat much at the picnic due to hating cheese) was a bit peckish when we got to Ong's Bar, so she ordered a couple of fiery dishes. Sadly she wolfed them down before I could take a picture of them, so I could only manage a picture of the aftermath.

Ken just about managed to find his way out, but he was starting to get a bit pissed.

Next, we went to Ayuttaya's 'Kao San Road' and a bar called Moon Cafe. The mozzies there were hungry little fellows, but I went on a killing spree and managed to kill ten or so.

We met up with one of the guys' girlfriends here. She brough her 'dog' along.

Did the american cause a lot of embarrassment? I suppose it's a bit like having a dog that always pissess up peoples legs, you have to pretend he aint with you, oh dear, that just reminded me, I have an american friend coming over next week, although he is quite well trained and could pass as a kiwi.

The guy looking at the map with Khun Tip is Ken May. Storkeeper is in Japan so declined my invitation to pop over for the weekend.

Actually, DD - Ken is a really great guy. I'm sure he could easily pass for a Kiwi.
