Markets are a thing here. Last weekend we spent some time shopping, eating, and drinking. Live music, blue skies. A very nice was to spend a few hours.

Why does it finish so early?
Day market. They have a few night markets also, but mostly driving home at night is not advised. Roads are poorly light, or not at all, full of crazy pot holes, Africans tend to walk on the roads in dark clothing at night and there’s plenty of drunk drivers around.
A few more mainly food markets this coming weekend. Well, Thursday through Sunday. We’ll attend at least one to two.

So today’s life in SA could literally be expat life pretty much anywhere. Cricket, beer, and pizza. Not exciting or exotic but a damn good day. The time zones mean that the Adelaide day night test starts at 6:00am and finishes around 2:00pm. So a day in front of the tv it was. And a pretty darn good day it was too, smashing the Indians. The good thing about cable in SA is that they have approx 10 channels solely dedicated to sport, so you nearly always get to watch whichever game/code/event live.

After the cricket a quick Power Nap and then out for pizza dinner. The Italian ambassador told me that this is the best pizza place in town, and they were pretty good. And a few G&Ts for hydration porpoises.

There's a national election coming up next year, so some political wrangling going on now. Some schools are closed today, just in case there's demonstrations or unrest while the supreme court makes a judgemnet on the eligiblity of a former president to stand a third time in the elections.

Govt restates calls for calm ahead of constitutional court’s ruling on ex-president Lungu’s case
The Zambian government has called for calm as the Constitutional Court prepares to deliver its judgment on the eligibility of former President Edgar Lungu.
The ruling is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
In a media briefing held at the Ministry on Monday, Information and Media Permanent Secretary, Thabo Kawana, urged citizens to follow the judgment from their homes or workplaces, emphasizing that crowding the court premises was unnecessary.
He pointed out that both public and private media had been allowed to broadcast the judgment live.
“Citizens are also warned against commenting on cases before the courts of law, adding that those found wanting should not ride on tribal or regional lines,” Kawana warned.
Kawana commended the judiciary for allowing the media to broadcast the proceedings of Lungu’s eligibility case, announcing that more cases would be televised in the future.
In a related development, Kawana warned that political involvement does not exempt individuals from facing legal consequences.

POI Do the locals celebrate Christmas or are they Prebyterian, Muslim or local beliefs? Here in LOS, depsite very few church going Christians and many missions, The Malls and large shops are full of tinsel and plastic tat now associted with Xmas
This area of Southern Africa is predominantly Christian, there’s a church in every village (usually next to the bar). There’s a few plastic trees and tinsel around in most stores, every restaurant, resort or hotel is offering a Xmas dinner deal via Facebook advertising but other than that, it could be July instead of December. Life just gets on.

How do they feel about mining/ exploration ? It can be a positive thing and a bit of a game changer for there economies if they are positive. In Lao the Mine I worked on was 10% of gdp likewise the other big mine contributed a similar amount to govt coffers. Sure beats planting
