As it’s the weekend we decided we wanted some privacy and told the pool guys not to come around. So no updates for today or tomorrow.

That's the Intex pool Backtard was recommending. $5k and 2 years later call a hauler to cut it up and sadly haul it away to be put it in land fill because none of it is recyclable.

How is the pool project going? Clearly your "Grilling" is always top stuff.

Your pool is going to need some deck type covering to get out of the sun. Make it just big enough to hold the BBQ pit with maybe some drop shade covering, low cost and very effective. The haters on here will go bonkers that you can grill and drink by the pool having fun.

Bill, if you get a chance while you are over there, try fillet of Eland. I had it a few times many years ago when I was working in Tanzania and can still remember how good it was.

I can one up that, I think. Bear sausage brought back by my buddy from Alaska. He brought salmon and halibut as well, and he used to do it every year until he sold his place here in Seattle. Lives in Alaska full time now.

Well, it wasn't like you were gonna travel there, was it?

I've eaten reindeer, bear, kangaroo and crocodile in Europe.

Bat, monitor lizard, snake, mouse deer and a variety of insects in Asia.

The worst of the latter category was bat; the best was monitor lizard (but very bony).

Most of it all frozen somewhere else and reheated. I had fresh venison at my local gasthaus in Germany many times. Found it better than the frozen shit they had on offer.

We get more reindeer than you can shake a stick at up here in Norway.

When I worked in Namibia we chewed on Kudu biltong which was very nice.

When we drove at night we were told to keep the interior lights on in the pickup. The kudu used to see vehicles on the road at night and would jump over the lights, and end up going straight through the windscreen and causing a lot of nasty accidents. If the interior lights were kept on they'd jump right over the vehicle, or so we were told.

However, this is bang on. I've had it a few times and most recently in winter last year in Latvia. In fact, I'm pretty sure I posted pics on one of the food threads.

Mind you, anything smoked is gonna be good. Just like snubs boyfriend says.
