Let's not forget that Mendy rocks one of his Rolexes while taking home all the hotel mini-soaps.

You must have missed my fruit and yogurt breakfast yesterday and my big portion of green beans and broccoli last night. I had a bowl of lentil soup for lunch as well, which was excellent. There was no photo of the soup unfortunately... this hotel is absolutely crammed with aging offshore workers who arrive the night before in preparation for a helicopter crew change the next day. I don't want to look like some kind of an Instagrammer in front of these guys.

But it is a worry Stumps... I like routines, both at home in Korat and once offshore and periods 'in limbo' like this are extremely disruptive. I've been doing a fair bit of walking around but my diet leaves a lot to be desired... however how often do I get the chance for a really good fry-up, etc. so I won't beat myself up about it.

I won't be buying those Tunnock's Tea Cakes again, but you've gotta try them once you're here. Sadly I nailed the daughter's Cadbury's mini-eggs last night, but I can always get another bag today... and nail them as well.

It's not so easy to eat healthily in Scottish hotels... there's an awful lot of fried food and a noticeable absence of veg. This morning I had another bowl of fruit for breakfast which I poured a yogurt over... only to discover it was toffee flavour yogurt. I mean, WTF eats toffee flavour yogurt?

I've spent an awful lot of time in this part of the world over the years and Aberdeenshire this time of year holds very little interest to me... I could drive around and look at a few hills and fields, but what's the point - it would be nothing I haven't seen before. I was hoping to catch up with a good friend in Stonehaven but he's offshore, and another old mate now has an onshore office job, and with a young family is unavailable for beer.

If I actually get a confirmed boarding day and time allows, I will get a flight down to Bristol to see my mum, but we never really get more than 36 hours of confirmed time until the vessel 'may' be ready for us.

In the meantime I've been walking about, doing this and that and have also sorted out a load of tax and admin stuff which would have taken me a couple of days anyway at some point, and it's very nice to get paid to do it.

Oh... I do have standards. All of my wine has come in a bottle and all of my food is freshly cooked from the restaurant. I generally just prefer to bring it back to my room so I can take some decent photographs without having people look at me!

I am avoiding bulk buying of alcohol Mike because once summoned, any spare would be left in my hotel room for the cleaners. In fact I'm moderating my alcohol intake and not drinking late as I just don't know if I'd suddenly get a call early the next morning. The zero tolerance to alcohol in this industry really is that strict these days and it's just not worth the risk.

You are correct, I don't have a very sophisticated palate for wine and am easily satisfied with any old rubbish... but... that bottle of Trivento I started yesterday was on a higher level. It was on the 'Under a 10' shelf, but I think it was only just under!

Have you stayed in a hotel recently?

It's all squeezy dispensing bottles mounted on the walls these days. There's not a miniature soap, shampoo or body wash in sight.

He was going on about fewer people needing British passports because of BREXIT yesterday.

    Perhaps it's the tea?

That presumably isn't what's handicapping willy's mental process, though.

^^true abt the shampoos & soap/ body wash. It was like that (large bottles) in the last hotel that I stayed at (Taiwan, last year). They did provide small samples of lotion/ moisturizer and toothpaste. I brought my own and nicked the hotel samples.

Thnx for taking pics of the food, Mendy. Your Instagram efforts are noted.

Mendy, does all this hotel time add to the length of your rotation or are those days deducted from.your time? Or is it all a bit rubbery time wise? I remember when I lobbed in Sudan I was holed up in the company house for 9 days before I got a permit to travel to site. As fucked up as Khartoum.was doing the 8 week roster in Khartoum.would of been preferable. But that time in Khartoum was indeed deducted from my sentence.

^ BLD, I agreed to come over for a project that should take around three weeks (plus weather), I'm on a 'home to home' contract which sadly doesn't include any Bangkok stopover time. My project hasn't started yet, and won't until the vessel finishes the previous delayed project, so this is all good for me. I will already get around a week's extra pay for this trip, so long may the delay last. If I can get 4 or 5 weeks out of this trip, that would be great

The vessel crane is now fixed and she's working off Peterhead and it's currently looking as though we'll be joining either late tomorrow or early Thursday.

This is a Norwegian vessel and Norwegian staff have extremely rigid rotas due to the union. The vessel has a crew change on alternate Wednesdays and several people will end up only joining the vessel for a few days before going home again. Thankfully I'm freelance so don't get mixed up in that nonsense.
