^ I'm not exactly sure what you're asking here OhOh... that topside and FPSO are nothing to do with us. We just passed a small shipyard south of Bergen.

But, if you're asking about the ship I'm working on... we have a standard spread and any extras will be added as and when required. If the equipment is company owned then it may stay onboard for some time until required but if it's rented from a third party then you have to way up rental costs compared to the costs of an unscheduled port call to mobilise everything.

For example, that dredging machine we took on costs a small fortune (all passed on with a surcharge, of course). It's not only the cost of the equipment hire... the dredger comes with a crew of 6 and then we need 4 x riggers (2 to cover each shift), 2 x deck foremen and 2 x shift supervisors, so there's an additional 14 personnel who all want paying. None of these guys are cheap in Norway so you can see how costs escalate dramatically. That underwater dredging machine will have cost many thousands of pounds per day for the client, on top of the usual ship/spread hire rate.

Mendy bud, about the food for the kid situation. Or lack of food for the kid.

    When ya get back home.

Spend a day or two teaching her how to cook half a dozen dishes by doing big batch cooks, then deep freezing a dozen individual servings for when yer off relaxing on these Northern Lights holiday trips.

Ragu/Spag bol sauce. Then show her how to place it with pasta, or go Eddie n Armstrong by putting it on top of french fries or toast.
Mild chili con carne, then served with nachos, a bread rice/pasta.
Chicken Korma, get some pilau rice and naan breads in there too.
Shepherd's Pie in single serve trays that just need to be bunged in the oven.

Good fun doing it and teaching her, and if do a dozen servings of each sealed and into the deep freeze she'd have .... 12 + 12 + 12 + 12..... add the twos, move the ones to the left.... she'd have a lot of homecooked emergency food.

You’re assuming he knows how to cook all that. None of them had peas.

Add in Ed's pulled pork, continued on from Lulu's suspiciously similar version.

    https://teakdoor.com/the-kitchen/156...ml#post4504323 (Luigio's Slow-Cooked Mexican Pulled Porkio.)

    Ribs.

    Rib, Rib, Rib Kings.

Vacuum sealed and into ze deep freeze.

She'll be the best fed princess that side of Bangers.

And do they not have Food Panda in Korat, or like the aircon in the hot season, the family are barred from using them?

^ I do frown on frivolous luxuries... while I'm away!

I already do the batch steak and kidney pies and also batch mini quiches but batch spag bol sauce is a good idea. Once it's bagged up it can be used for spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pie or even fajitas if rolled up in a wrap, the world will be my daughter's oyster. I can also batch freeze portions of mashed potato.

She isn't a bad cook already and can already prepare and bring me a cup of tea (if she wants something)... and I'm not talking any fruity shire with bits in, she can make a proper cup of PG Tips.

Maybe a vacuum sealer would be a good investment?

I'll get on to this as next year I'm thinking about going on a 4 on, 4 off rota for a while so will be away a lot more.

Anyway, tonight we're at Sleipner, a 30 year old development in the south of the Norwegian Sector.

We're working right next to the Sleipner B Platform, an unmanned platform, and need to get this work finished before the weather is due up at the end of the week.

Although the local wildlife is conspiring against us...

That's the Sleipner A Platform off in the distance.

Many years ago during my first offshore season in 1991, the first Sleipner A concrete jacket was being built in a fjord close to Stavanger when it imploded during buoyancy testing. The thing sank to the bottom of the fjord and hit the seabed with such force that the shock measured 3 on the Richter Scale. We were working for Statoil at the time and were called to do emergency surveys of the structure on the seabed and found just a twisted mess of concrete and rebar. It was a highly reported event in the Norwegian press and we had helicopters buzzing around overhead and vessel visits by the top Statoil bods... big publicity for the contractor I was working for... and then the Safe union called a strike for some disgruntlement or other and the vessel was called off mid-job and went alongside. It's strange what you remember. It would have been an interesting project as well.

What was it that happened on your last busmans cruise?...Wasnt it something about your Missus needing 200 baht for a taxi or for urgent medical treatment but you'd taken all the bank cards with you?

Just buy an airfyer and enter the modern world of 10 minute fish fingers, burgers, bacon, popcorn chicken, pizza, sausages and French fries to complement microwaved frozen peas or give that factotum of yours a boot up the jacksy/payrise

Do you get any days off when you're offshore or is every day a workday and the reason they restrict to only 4 weeks on for mental health reasons, nowadays?

This boat won't drive itself, you know!

No, no days off... 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's relentless. Much like my life in Korat only at least I get paid for this.

And the wife is welcome to spend as much as she likes, so long as she pays by cash using whatever is left in our Thai bank account. She may struggle to get anything from Makro however as I've just found our Makro card in my wallet.

^^ Is it that time of the year already?

I'm looking forward to getting my Santa costume out when I get home. Maybe this will be the year the missus tries out her Santa's helper outfit?

But there's always Anna in reserve.

    FFS... it's not like that.

Yesterday we gradually worked through the survey scope and now have around 12 hours work left... with the weather due right up in the afternoon. Currently have 35kt winds but the seas aren't up yet, and it's touch and go if we'll get this scope finished before heading to shore for shelter.

It was a flat calm yesterday.

Katie wanted a picture of me working out but there was no-one to take my picture, so this will have to suffice just to prove that I've been in the gym. I'm having 'gym wars' at the moment. I always go down at 10pm to catch the Sky News headlines before my shift and spend an hour on the treadmill and shit. I usually have the gym to myself but a few nights ago, after a crew change, there were two fukkers already there... one on each treadmill, music blaring. I just left in disgust... and went down at ten minutes to 10pm the next night!

Two nights ago they beat me to it again, so tonight I went down at 9:30... and no-one else turned up. Which pissed me off even more.

And hopefully sounding nothing like Edmond, my post gym breakfast of tuna steak.

The biggest mystery on this boat is why I don't lose any weight.

^^gym wars, lol. Somehow, you trying to one-up your colleagues reminds me of a Mr Bean episode.

Thanks for the gym & food pics. That looks like a nice enough gym (since it's in a ship/ vessel).

Re: your food, is that all you eat for a meal? No 2nd servings? Pudding? How about snacks?

(I lost some weight by decreasing my snack intake. My meals are almost the same. Plus regular exercise.)

Nutella is what you need, spread a bit on the equipment you want to use to reserve it. Don't forget to bring a couple of slices of soft white with you to clean up prior to use.
