    Madagascar

some photos without Lemurs or Penguins

if people want some tips about getting around the place without using Air Maybe , I will see if I can answer - though flying is the easiset way to get around as the roads are a bit fcuked and 360 klms took me 10 hours on the road.

this is the Capital city - Antananarivo , and these hills are where the rich live

The road - RN2 ( route national 2 ) from Tana to Toamasina ( or Tamatave ) - this is 360 klms and a decrease in elevation of 1000 meters , which means a lot of spectacular terrain . The road is only one lane each way , with many small towns and villages hanging off each side and enroaching - and as this is the main road between the islands port of Tamatave all the freight is on trucks which are mostly second hand from France , Belguim and Germany and in various states of disrepair , broken down trucks on the road are common , and even broken down trucks blocking the whole road as they attempted to negotiate a switchback and died.

I went back to visit people - was 4 years since I last was able to go . I went bkk via add on Ethiopian. The sin to mru is not back on yet and per to run was overly expensive.

There is an election in November and I hope the current incompetents get punted . 13 years of no progress . But I think the French govt will keep interfering . The Russians tried back in 2019 , but were laughably useless.

The Japanese ambassador made a speech the other day which made the point.

Excellent Baldric, thanks for posting, what's the beer and food like there? Doesn't Madagascar have one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet?

Thanks for views of a place of the beaten track, the poverty looks like rural Thailand decades ago. Tell us about the food , is French style or local veg and chicken for locals?

Look forward to more, thanks for making the effort to upload

^ Malagasy - they discovered about 10 years ago that the population is descended from about 30 Indonesians from Kalimantan I think

a study suggested that Madagascar was settled approximately 2,200 years ago by a very small group, which consisted of approximately 30 women, where 28 (93%) of them have maritime Southeast Asian descent and 2 (7%) of them have African descent. The Malagasy population existed through the intermixing of the first small founding population. The closest Asian parental population of the Malagasy are the Banjar and other South Kalimantan Dayak people of south east Borneo.
the north eastern coast is home to the Betsimisaraka people - Wikipedia - this area was used by Pirates and was the supposed location of Libertatia - Wikipedia

what is known is that the Pirate Captain Thomas Tew and a local Princess/Queen had a shag after a party on Nosy N'Akhoho - there is still the remains of the large cauldron in which the cooking was done and the grave of the queen when she died. I do have a photo of them somewhere that I took about 10 years ago - the son born of that drunken fcuk went on to unite the different tribes of the coast and ruled for 50 odd years

it is a small island that you can walk around in less than an hour and you can get a local fisherman to take you across in his pirogue for a small sum

to get to Fenerive Est you can take a taxi brousse which will take about 3-4 hours for the 100 klm journey - best to book a row of seats ( 5 seats , 75000 Ariary ) in a new merc sprinter - first or second row and good for 3 people to not be too cramped - these sprinters have 4 rows of 4 seats , but 5 people are put in the 4 seats at 15000 Ariary each. You can also drive a car or ride a motorcycle ( stop halfway at Foule Pointe for a beer ) , and there is a tourist bus from Marissa? transport which connects with a ferry going to Nosy Boraha ( ille saint marie ) .

anywhere vehicles have to slow down or stop - like police / army checkpoints - there will be women selling food

Fenerive Taxi Brousse ( Bus ) departure

this beach is on the southern part of the google earth grab acroos from where the road does the 90 degree hook - there was a rustic resort in the corner of the beach called La Ruscia , but when the mother died , the son turned up with a Heroin addiction and stripped the resort of all its interior fittings and gradually sold them - it may start up again if the land is sold to someone - it was a nice little corner , swimming , sitting in the gazebos drinking beer and eating.

though there are quite a few of these run down resorts on the coast and they can be excellent

and the seafood is very nice - and fresh

and the slipper lobster ( Segal? in french I think ) - the locals did not know how to cook and eat them - I asked the bloke who was hawking the crayfish if he could get me slipper lobsters and showed him a photo from wikipedia - he turned up the next day with 3 1/2 kilos of them for 15USD - I had to buy them all because no one else wanted them and he had bought them only for me .

So Australians will know the slipper lobster by its cousins name - the moreton bay bug or balmain bug

Wow. Balmain bugs . Excellent. Gotta ask a question though. if you were a single bloke looking for a date how would you get on ? Asking out of curiosity. I recently done a job for a Madagascar girl that would give a jellyfish a horn. Creole is the language? English spoken much?
