Tulip Festival and other Summer pics

In May every year, this Nation's capital (Ottawa, Canada) has a tulip festival with hundreds of different colored tulips. This year it was great to go to see them as last year the festivities were cancelled. I've also been out a lot on my bike and will post some pics from my travels.

A few pics for any tulip lovers.

The bike path right next to a bed of tulips.

Thanks Willy, a few more.. It is nice that you can just walk around them or walk your bike around to see them.

    ^Glad you enjoyed, Loy Toy!

This may look barren, but this is called the Experimental Farm, and it takes up a huge size in the west of the city. I am not sure what they grow, but you can ride your bike all along to see the fields.

The view from the main road from my bike. It is very hard to type as I just got a French manicure and typing with long nails is hard..lol. I'll try my best.

So I turn right to get to the Rideau Canal. People cross the locks with their bikes if they want to ride on the other side. Both sides are lovely to ride along.

A couple of lift locks , they lift so boats can pass through.

I'll stay on this side to bike. I'm biking around Dow's Lake now.

Dow's Lake is pretty big. People rent canoes, paddle
boats from a pavillion you'll soon see.

Bigger boats also dock at Dow's Lake.

Dow's Lake Pavillion..it sort of sits on the water.

The have a Mexi's restaurant at the top, open air restaurant.

Cant sleep so ill add a few more.. may be a bit boring, but what the heck.

    More locks..

    That is a pedestrian/bike bridge.

I must say I enjoy this ride so much. Ottawans are very outdoorsy.. and always some people around, but not overly crowded. 1 million people only in this sprawled out City.

    In my happy place

Nice pics MM! It looks like you have liads of open space around Ottawa.

The tulips in Norway are just over now, I guess we're on a similar latitude? In England I think the tulips are out in March.

^ Thanks Mendip! Tulips here come out in late April /early May. Too bad they don’t last all season.

I have a long week ahead, but will post these before work starts.

I went hiking today in the Gatineau Park across the Ottawa river in Quebec. The park has some great hikes. My friend recommended one I haven't done before.
It's called Carbide Willson Ruins. There is some history there behind the ruins.

This trail is part of the Trans Canada (Great trail ) crosses Canada (14,996 miles). Stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Arctic Oceans.

Meech Lake in the distance. This lake has a few beaches and apparently one is a nude beach.

    No nude people spotted

My bestie on the right. She brought the poles as there were some hills with jagged logs and rocks.

Right beside the ruins they used to have a dam and a generator station.

Beautiful falls, I was pleasantly surprised to see this.

Wonderful pics, MM. I miss the quality and quantity of hiking trials from home.

How many miles did you walk in the day? Circle or there and back?

Thanks..This wasn't a loop, so there and back. It wasn't a long trail compared to what we normally do, but it was a lot of up and down and lots of careful stepping because of jagged rocks and tree roots. We also took some time taking photos by the ruins/fall. I believe it was 4km round trip.

Very close to me is a bay called Mooney's Bay. There is a beach along here and a Boat Club where they practice daily for the dragon boat race every summer.

    Nearby is Mooney's Bay falls.

The water is very strong in the spring. It is quite light at the moment.

    Lovely pics MM.

Do you know if that festival is in honour of the Dutch princess who was born in an hospital in Ottawa during WW2?

There is a room in that hospital that was designated Dutch territory for the purposes of the birth.

    Take care.

Thanks Russ! I hope you are doing well.
I think you are correct in your history. You can read more about it here.
