250,000 euro investment in real estate would get you Greek citizenship.
its actually a bit more than that.
Government, notary and lawyer fees for the property purchase and visa application will amount to around €15,000. In addition there is VAT of 24% to pay in Greece on new property purchases.
Been to Greece a few times. Enjoyed the places and the people. A lot worse places in the world to live.
You are right!!
Not too bad of a deal IMO not to have to jump through all the visa extensions and other nonsense we do in Thailand.
What did my investment in Thailand get me?
exactly.
the website does not make it clear if the VAT is payable on all property purchases or just on new builds.
if only italy had a similar scheme, we would sell up in thailand and have our second home in italy.
The parks are busy. One of the few places you can sit without a maskand have a coffee
Interesting thread this. Bottom line is you can live wherever but helps to be cashed up and self suffifient in your adopted country
Lay of the Ouzo , and stand up straight, it's embarrassing that you take most of your pictures flat out on the floor laying on your side.
Glad to see that you sober up for your last four pictures.
Covid test today in order to return to the UK. If it's positive then it will mean 2 weeks of state quarantine.
The clinic needed 2 days notice for an appointment. 60 euros for the nasal swab. Neither friendly or efficient, unlike the UK set up.
We've got boxes of the DIY lateral flow tests here for free.
Result in under 30 minutes.
Any luck with the property hunt?
been looking at a few apartments. There's a lot for sale. My thoughts are for an Autumn/ Spring bolthole to allow a little bit of city life with an easy escape to the islands. The rest of the time, look at short letting it on Booking com or Airbnb etc.
A couple seem interesting. One is located on the main drag up to Omonia that runs past the National Archaeological Museum. It's a bit hoodish with lots of the usual migrants. A great 1970s building. Two bedrooms on the 4th floor overlooking a pedestrian street. Asking c 100K euros.
The other is slightly more residential area. 4th fl overlooking a small garden square where the tavernas lay out their tables in Summer. It's just north east of Pedion Tou Aries park. Again, two beds asking c100k.
It seems asking prices of 1200 e /M2 are normal for city centre in not quite prime loctions - but without having to venture into the badlands near Omonia with the open drug use and heroin /crack whores
The interiors are generally basic, but nothing that 9-12k euro kitchen/bathroom and decor tosh up won't solve.
