    Notes from a small island

Managed to get away for a few days last week to San Andres, which is a Colombian island in the Caribbean albeit just off the coast of Nicaragua.

Leaving gloomy Bogota behind courtesy of our friendly flight crew in their butcher's outfits (1hr 45 flight going and 1 hour 30 coming back).

Got a nice place opening up onto the ocean for about 30 quid a night. Huge place and, as we were the only guests there, we had the whole terrace and pier to ourselves. They even gave us a bottle of wine and a 6 pack of beers to welcome us!

This side of the island managed to avoid the hurricane that recently hit the region, and it's the usual mixture of wealth and poverty incongruously sitting side by side with people chatting away in Spanish, Creole and (occasionally) English.

Anyway, the beaches (and their reggae bars). As nice as you'd expect, but I wouldn't say they were any better than, say, Koh Lipe or even some of those on Koh Chang.

We hired a boat for a few hours, with a guide, and he took us to some very nice places while even taking the time to show us a bit of the sea life.

This is actually a bar in the middle of the ocean and you can see it on the right of the picture below. A pretty pleasant way to spend a few hours getting pissed.

    Very very cool.

    Great pics.

I'm very sorry for lowering the tone a bit.

    "Cump."

Is 'Cump' a newish word... a bit like 'Hangry', but when a guy pumps his, ahem,.... deep into..... say, an airhostess.

Anyway, having got suitably sunburnt, I had to avoid the beach on the last day, so I went to the big lagoon, which is part of larger nature reserve, to stroke some crocodiles (caiman).

My man below told me that there are between 50 and 70 in the lake and that they're fairly tame. They're not native to the island and there's a fairly interesting story as to how they got there. About 35 years ago, a plane was carrying them to a country further north where they were due to be turned into handbags. However, the plane developed engine trouble so had to land at San Andres. Unfortunately, it didn't have the correct paperwork to take off with the crocs on board, so they had to be released or killed. And here they are today where they have bred and multiplied in number!

And that was that. Off to the airport, which reminded me of an old Thai/Malaysian wet market, and back to another impending lockdown. ho hum.

She was fit. I thought you might like that one. There's also a bird in a tiny G-string type bikini in one of the pics too.

    Spanish, meaning "meet," approximately.

    Also, Urban Dictionary,
    Cump
Colloquially known as the "one pump dump". To cum after only one pump
Dasha was so tight and wet, I could not help but cump. She was not impressed.

I'm very sorry for lowering the tone a bit further.

Great stuff- thanks for sharing. Apart from the BVI, I haven't done the Caribbean at all. For shame.

Looks like quite a nice vacation for a few days or a lazy week.

That water looks warm (as in unpleasantly soup warm).

...I think the reason for the English and Patois is immigration from the English-speaking Caribbean islands like Jamaica...I noticed the language mix in villages along the eastern coast of Nicaragua (Bluefields, was it?) ...

Quite surprised to learn that Columbia has islands so far north of the mainland. 450 miles. Looks like a place worth holding onto though.

Never heard of this place before. Looks like some outstanding seafood. Worthy of a trip just for that!

    Aye. Very tasty seafood.

There are weekly flights from Canada to the island during the winter, but not this year due to COVID. Not sure about the US, but it seems not. Dunno why.

I love that part of the world. Did some work a bit south on the island of St. Vincent and St. Lucia and loved it. The fruit salsa they serve with food is delicious and their love of food reminds me of Thailand.
