Managed to get away for a few days last week to San Andres, which is a Colombian island in the Caribbean albeit just off the coast of Nicaragua.
Leaving gloomy Bogota behind courtesy of our friendly flight crew in their butcher's outfits (1hr 45 flight going and 1 hour 30 coming back).
Got a nice place opening up onto the ocean for about 30 quid a night. Huge place and, as we were the only guests there, we had the whole terrace and pier to ourselves. They even gave us a bottle of wine and a 6 pack of beers to welcome us!
This side of the island managed to avoid the hurricane that recently hit the region, and it's the usual mixture of wealth and poverty incongruously sitting side by side with people chatting away in Spanish, Creole and (occasionally) English.
With fish, of course, being an island staple.
