Everything I dislike about Greece and Italy in one easily avoided island. I sailed there a few times en route elsewhere

Far better, head to a Greek island. Crete is far enough south. I was on Aegina a few weeks ago, people were swimming in the sea. Athens is an hour away too.

    Apparently Malta is like Marmite.
Just fancy something different with lots of old architecture.

Done the Greek islands many times.

Good luck with it. Looking forward to the trip report. I was there to help crew a friend's boat to Sardinia in September. Jeez it was warm. The best thing about it was sailing out of Grand Harbour away from the place..... Hopefully more pleasant temperatures this time of year.

It is true, as I have heard, Malta would indeed be Paradise if every priest were a tree.

^ Might not be the best time to go CCC. Think there is a thread elsewhere that they just banged up half the islands police force for corruption.

Chitty, if you don't eat anything else local have their Rabbit dish Fenkata, should be easy to find.

^^ looks fantastic. I've always fancied a trip to Malta, so I'm looking forward to your picture thread.

They do some wonderful mailorderbrides, and apparently they accept part exchange - is that why you're really going, Chitty?

It always seems to be popular with elderly people who don't like abroad much.

How will it fit in with the culinary trip to Las Vegas, the 5 stag trips around Europe and the various trips to Thailand with blokes that have never been here but need recommendations?

As a kid living in Saudi we would sometimes vacation on Malta for a week or so. In 1979 when they made the movie Popeye with Robin Williams they built "Popeyes" village on Malta, it went on to become a pretty nice tourist attraction. But 150 workers built this in just about 4 months.

^ I went to Malta in the 90s and visited Popeye's village while I was there.

I went for 10 days in February and the hotel was full of old people staying for a few months seeing out the winter there. They'd go for breakfast and the women woukd fill their handbags up with bread and cake to eat for their lunches.

Remarkably close to how I'd pictured it...

Danish unions still have holiday centers there.

    Folke Ferie( The People's Holiday)

Have a nice East German ring to it.

    Nice, cheap and warm.

My eldest brother took his entire clan there for his birthday last month.

    (his wife paid )

    Never heard of any complaint

I'm not an offspring of my brother.

My family is quite conservative regarding breeding.
