I should add some more to the thread now the owners have toned down the slag ads.

I think the novelty wore off after month 3 and the reality of living among some of the most willfully ignorant and arrogant cunts on the planet (Arabs and Expats), living working in constant 45c+ through the summer and lack of logic at times made for a rocky ride.

There were certainly a couple of times when I thought fuck this I can make just as much with less responsibility elsewhere... but the flipside of living in a region that constantly pushes the boundaries of what is possible and being in a job where my experience and opinion really does make a difference and the many, many friendships I've struck up here through the job make it really worthwhile.

I've just had 3 weeks holiday in Thailand and Indonesia and coming back to Dubai does feel like coming home. I think I've said all that can be said about the pros and cons of living here... it's time to just get on with it. More pics to follow

41c outside, which is kind of moderate for this time of year, it's usually 45c plus, cloud seeding and air pollution seem to be helping.
Though it's not seeding anymore, now it's drones with electric charges, amazing what you can do with a lot of money and unrestriced ambition... the UAE sent Hope to Mars this year.

The air outside is not too healthy even if I did want to step out, usually in the red zone 150-200 AQI, a big fire at a nearby plastics factory yesterday will keep that topped up.

And so it's that time of year... home living, occasional trips to the supermarket and the booze shop, watching plenty of TV series and movies, finished GoT the other night with a 7 hour marathon, exercising indoors and not eating too much junk. Working from home mostly, only going out to customers 2-3 times a week, money in the bank every month, it's not a bad old life really.

Except for the lack of travel.. but we all have to deal with that, better off not thinking about it too much, but I do miss some good scenery and the rain.

If you want some photos of Dubai you can google them, when you've seen one skyscraper you've kinda seem them all, but they continue to build more, bigger and arguably better. Its been a strange year this last year, so many construction sites that are now just shells, they never knock them down, just start building somewhere else.

The demographic is changing, and the Palm is sinking apparently.

There are benefits to living in a country where you have to choose your words carefully, crime continues to affect only those least likely to report it. Public health in this C19 pandemic is mandatory and looking out at the carnage in UK, US and EU I finally appreciate the bubble we live in here, it is safe.

I've been here more then five years, married to my Flipper more than 3... good job she's a great cook and a kind soul, she keeps me sane and young at heart. Certain will will end up in the Philippines, but that's a long way off yet and C19 has limited our opportunities, so will stick it out here a bit longer and keep the coin coming in.

About another 10 weeks or so before it cools back down and we go out a bit more, maybe I'll share some photos of my favorite spots here.. there are some.

In the meantime, stay safe.
