Place a red ribbon on the lead goat when you herd them through a built up area.
    A bell helps as well

^^^ it's actually part of some funky muslimist hoodoo where the firm believer in all things mystycal goes in the shop, asks for a miracle and pays some money, if the miracle then comes true they promise to slaughter the sheep and feed the poor... bit of a chicken/egg type scenario and I was assured by some normal mussies that its very much a fringe cult type thing...

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

I'm there mate, been here since sunday... my heads only just stopped spinning, bloody amazing so far, couldn't be better.. I'll sort out some pics over the next couple of days, days off friday and saturday. I love it, could just be the honeymoon period, but what is obvious is the lack of aggression.. people are aloof, but not particularly arrogant, which after the UK seems very easy going. Great bunch at work, very multinational.. lots of funny anecdotes, weather is perfect right now and they have bum guns.. what more could one need ..?

If the goat could convey it's last wish, being spit roasted by you and Stoker would no doubt be exactly what it would want

Now, that's my kind of goat (actually, I think I met her, so she probably wandered across from the Omani border...).

Neo - do not get intoxicated with Dubai and spend all your money! Many folks work in Dubai, earn good money and still leave the place in debt! Take care...

It's not too bad actually.. eating out can be expensive, but the supermarkets are cheap enough.. I'm not into bling and once the work permit is approved I'll be out of the country expenses paid during the week, sure I'm not gonna save a huge amount especially at first when I start furnishing an apartment, but with all fun in moderation I should be ok in the long term.. point taken though

I went for the medical today for the immigration process, as long as I don't have HIV I should be okay, will get the result next week... fingers crossed eh

£8 a pint for euro piss.. 75dhm for 2 bottles of Singha, can't do the math but sure it could get a small Isaan village pissed for the same price.. found the slooty side of Dubai tonight... behind closed doors all pay to play..but happy to watch and get pissed than take up the offer of a thick wristed unhappy ending... still its good to know we're all human after all..

Really is the hangover from hell today... note to self: don't drink lager

I came back in the early hours and cut all the strings off my guitar, presumably with the intention of re-stringing it...
good job I didn't attempt it, I couldn't even tie my bloody shoelaces.

Pictures on the way.. once I can hold down some solid food again

Right guys back on track.. been a lot of introductions and celebrations the last couple of weeks, it's got a little messy, but that's not what I'm here for.. so onward and upward.

Let's catch up with a few photos, various formats so please excuse picture size etc, I don't have anything to resize or adjust them with the Chromebook.. things will improve once the PC gets shipped over.

So, first a couple from the flight over.. one for the road at the airport with Istanbul's local brew, very tasty it is too.

We went with Turkish Airlines which were excellent, great in flight entertainment and proper hotties in the cabin crew. The flight out was delayed which meant we didn't get into Dubai until 3.30 am... you'd think that would mean plain sailing through the airport but it was not to be, the place was rammed.

It took two hours to get out, by which time I was knackered... but nearly there.
Once I get residency I can apply for a card that gets me straight in and out the airport through the express lane, which is a bonus and also I've aplied to all the airline travel schemes to rack up air miles and get use of their pre flight lounges

So I slept until midday, then got up and headed for the sea... being a Southerner I could smell the sea air and knew I couldn't settle until I'd dipped my toes... easier said than done, most of the shoreline is taken up by private residences and gated communities, so after realising I couldn't walk in a straight line to it I did a u-turn and jumped on the metro to go the well known Marina area where there is access to Jumeriah beach. About 20 minutes in all.

It was a very pleasant 24c and little overcast, just like a summer day back home 8-) Some quick shots from the phone camera.

Then off to the Mall of the Emirates, which was only really interesting in it's size, but it does boast and indoor ski centre which you may have seen in one of those Megastructures documentaries on cable, very impressive and I'll have to go one day and get some more shots.

But I did manage to pick up some essentials while I was there.. I will survive.!

When I first got to the hotel, which is near to the Mall of the Emirates, I was pleasantly surprised to be put into a studio apartment with all mod cons.. when I got back the reception told me there had been a mistake and I had been put in the wrong room.. ah well I thought, it was too good to be true.

This is the room I should have been put in... it's a one bedroom apartment.!!

So this is home for the next month until the residency etc is sorted out.

    living room

    bedroom

    douche

    kitchenette

    trap 2

    and one of these

a few shots of the hotel interior, has an angular, ship like layout

rooftop pool, that's the ski dome on top of Mall of the Emirates in the background

not much of a view, but if you poke your head around the corner you can see that big sail thing

It's all really much more than I expected.. I'm used to contracting out of fleapit truckstops.. things couldn't be much better

No need and no point.. English is pretty much the first language in Dubai and in the office, the field officers in the various countries are Flippers and Indian with good English and Arabic, they can translate for any officials and the Arabs are unlikely to have a need or desire to speak to you. I went for the medical the other day and the company arranged the vip process, had a Paspatou to do all the talking.. I just had to present my self for the biometrics and scans.

The new toys from work, latest i5 Inspiron and Lumia 830

This is outside the office taken with the Lumia, really good image.

Thought I'd take the GX-1 out for some night time shots, but had very mixed results.

It's great for low noise in dark conditions, but the street lighting in Dubai is low to the point where it would be a muggers paradise in any other country and the camera struggled with the contrast with bright lights.. and I don't have anything to post process the pics on at the moment.

Here's a few shots that kind of turned out okay.

    This is my street...

    And downtown Marina...

I found a 7, but was extremely dissapointed that it didn't have the reassuring 'bing bong' as the door opened, nor any bottles of M150 in the cooler

That's all for now, going to do a bit of sightseeing this afternoon so I'll get some more pics then off to the bar to watch Southampton smash Newcastle.. c'mon Saints.!
