I've been missing out on this thread. I ran across it quite by accident. No puns intended. Well yeah they were.

I don't get the pic above at all. Is it a bird bath on the roof? I have a twelve year old cockatiel, but that's

another story. I'm not a cruel sadistic bastard so I let her out of the cage to have free run of the house.

For some reason she likes to perch on mils photograh and eat the wooden frame occasionally

crapping down the front of the pain. Of glass covering the photo. I don't know why, just does.

So what of the new gig? Anything worth a report/update on the thread. I do hope it's all good for you.

Mostly Flippers and Indians... not there to train them in bodywork though, just to give product demonstrations. If they don't get it, that's not my problem.. not everyone gets a gold star. I'm there to liaise with the importers/reps and give the technical info.

The week in Istanbul is to meet the regional managers and trainers and test new products under similar conditions.. ie spraying clearcoat meant for 20c at 35c+..

Should be good though.. the hotel looks nice, got a luxury room with a sea view, well we'll see what you get for £100 a night when I post up some pics.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Cheers guys, suitcases are packed and I fly out tomorrow.

Just a quick photo test, I can't be arsed with the TD gallery so I'll link in from Photobucket, please let me know if you can view the image below ok.

I've dusted off the little Ixus 85, so no fancy shots but its ideal for travel.

Here's the scene leaving Luton at lunchtime...

Nice eh..?, I thought... fek you Blighty and your shite Easter bank holiday weather..

And then I got off the plane at Istanbul... and it was bloody freezing and pissing with rain.. looked a bit out of place in flipflops and budgie smugglers

Well it was already dark when I got out the airport, I landed on the Europe side and the hotel is on the Asian side... so got in the taxi and gave him the destination and I don't think he was too pleased that he'd have to go all that way.. but jobs a job.

First impressions of Istanbul... they drive like mad bastards, especially angry taxi drivers.

Not much else to report, it's been a bloody long day, but the hotel is quite alright

It wasn't, it was a really horrible weekend, could not be bothered to watch the boat race which was only 200M away. A wise decision given this is what I missed,

Neo's well out of it.... even if he did escape chav air.

Saying which todays not that good either, quite load as the planes going into Heathrow are having to rev up their engines to deal with the wind on approach

out of curiosity neo, you mentioned spraying clearcoat at 15C above its design temp, presuably the solvent evaporates too quickly and the stuff is more viscus when it hits the body work. what do you do about that? add more solvent? a coarser spray?

I've found humidity to be more of a drama than temp , specially with clearcoats.
Dry the booth out with portable aircon , then hit it.
Your right about dry heat tho , try a mix with more thinners and less hardener over 30 degrees .. Trial and error with different quality paints.
Max Meyer make the best auto paints I've used , beautiful stuff to work with.

Well the ME doesn't have the same regulations as the EU so the VOC limits don't matter, so yeah a lot more thinners and the higher temp will reduce the viscosity anyway, just got to be quick is all, the new system is one full coat plus a half coat straight over, which is a bit back to front but it suits the conditions out there.

A few thoughts on Istanbul... it's bloody huge, 20 million people.. it's built over very hilly terrain, most people are packed into tower blocks, the road system doesn't seem to have any set plan, traffic jams are 24hrs a day and they drive like coonts. But.. it means the scene is constantly changing. Apparently property prices are higher the further you get from the centre.. go figure.

Turkish life is based around food, and doner kebaps are not just for when you're pissed.. maybe its just them being hospitable, but it seems a constant stream of food, we had a tea lady coming throughout the seminar today topping us up with chai, bread and biscuits... lunch was in a local restaurant that you would never even think about entering unless you were Turkish or a guest and more interesting for it, and this evening was a meat feast extravaganza with metre long kofte garnished with lamb cutlets and grilled chicken, just imagine.. you don't need a picture, I'm fucking stuffed and it's only day one.

Turkey will never join the EU because they would have to stop smoking in restaurants, it's bloody disgusting I feel like I've smoked a 20 pack.. can't believe we ever used to do that back home.

Here's a few not really amazing pictures from the hotel restaurant, we're kind of on the outskirts of the city here.

This is pretty much what you see right across the city, mile after mile of apartment blocks over hillside, very densely packed in.

This is looking away from the city..

And offshore some islands, which apparently don't have roads and mostly inhabited by well off retirees and goats.

I'll try and get a bit more up close and personal with the camera over the next few days to get a better insight into Istanbul life.

Oh.. and we are a very eclectic mix on the seminar... all middle east field officers (officially) the roll call is thus...

    1 English
    1 Aussie
    1 Dutch
    1 Ghanian
    1 Iranian
    2 Phillipino
    3 Indian

So these are the team I will be working with out there, quite a rag tag bunch you would think, but a really down to earth bunch of guys and I've a had a very warm welcome and a really good laugh with them all day.

    Okay..let the pisstake commence

Considering that I haven't put my hand in my pocket since I got here.. who cares about a sea view... I'm booked into the Radisson Blu Downtown in Dubai for a month on arrival.. has it got a seaview..? Do I give a shit..?

We're off out to a seafood restaurant by the Bosphorus this evening

It is an interesting view, as it's the real Istanbul, not the usual tourist postcard pics that one only sees.
