Is central BKK really 'safe' from major flooding? Is there access from the airport even with all the cars parked on the expressway?
Does anyone in the area have anything to report?

same question here..i fly in on sunday arvo..i go to get to pats to drink all LOY TOYS beer
it was OK last monday. not sure how much it has changed since then.
I arrived at BKK yesterday and drove down to Pattaya in airport limo.
No problems at all. Hardly a sign of flooding near to the main roads.

That's good to hear, but I'm concerned about the weekend- it seems like the worst might be yet to come (though I hope not).
Girlfriend drove to the airport (there now) delivering something to a girlfriend who works for Thai Airways. No problems.
Just got off the phone with her and she did say a lot of Thai Airways employees are parking their cars (some of them parking 4 cars, for their family) around the airport,.I guess going into the large office building Thai Airways has there. But it shouldn’t be a problem for you,.yet.

Cool- thanks for that info (and it's not what I would have expected).
Live in central BKK.
Everything's as dry as bone so far.
Thanks for the info , next question...will LT have enough beer??
^We'll ALL have enough beer....
Are there fears Sukhumvit will be inundated?
Anybody got an update for the airport/Sukhumvit route? Any problems?
most import question though: will Nana or Cowboy be flooded ?
I landed last night at 8.00pm and drove home to Pattaya, no problems at all.
Get on that plane man - your a super hero! It is just a little water and besides you can go back and tell everyone how you survived the flood. Maybe get a shirt I survided Thailand 2011!
However, I postponed my trip to the states to make sure the wife, house and property are safe..
This is true- however, it's not the flooding or getting there that worries me- I need to get to the airport and out of BKK on Thursday at the latest, and getting stuck there for a longer period is my main concern- I realize it shouldn't be a problem, but if it is, I'm kinda screwed.Originally Posted by chitown

I thought that might happen- it sounds like your area got hit pretty hard.Originally Posted by chitown

I'm home bound and getting to the airport would no doubt require an extensive effort - Boat? Army 6 wheeled truck? Maybe a bus?
I could probably make it there, but family comes first and there is no way I am leaving the missus to bear the burden of this tragedy. I think I am going to lose the ticket. I am waiting for confirmation either way. But its just a ticket right?
right I lost 4 round trips to Bali because of this.Originally Posted by chitown
I would do the same thing- there's no way I could leave my wife (or my dogs or my house) when this was going on.
I would bet that if you put up enough of a fight, you can change the ticket date- they might try to stick you with a $100-$200 change 'fee' (fucking airlines...) but you probably won't have to eat the whole thing.
Weather has been beautiful and roads are dry, sandbags everywhere are a joke.
Apparently they were 5 baht a bag but are now 70 baht a bag. The supermarkets are also doing well out of this. I would not be surprised if it's just another evil profit scam of the type that raked in millions for Tamiflu and the bloke who manufactures SARS masks.

If swampy is going to fllood they will have to divert incoming flights.I have been checking for any sign of problems mainly because i have experienced so many delays in the past.
Suvarnabhumi Airport
And now the airport link is running,at least there should be one way to reach the airport.

I just had to visit a client up in Pong Petch Junction.
Going along Prachachuen the khlong on the right was full right up the bridges crossing it, another 12 inches and it's over the banks. It was about 2 feet lower 2 days ago.
As I turned right onto Ngam Wongwan from Pong Petch there was 100m or so of 6 inch water which was splurting out of the manhole covers with quite a bit of pressure.
I'm getting calls from Thai friends in Bangkok who have been told to leave their houses and look for alternative safe housing for at least a month.
Can you believe this? I canceled my flight because of the flood and now my crazy uncle is flying in tonight from Vietnam.
He just bought a ticket and arrives tonight. He wants me to pick him up
So can anyone let me know - is the outer ring road to Swampy Poom flooded???
