Was this unjust even for Muammar Gaddafi?

I'm sorry to see him go...he was one of the best stand up comics around. The trial would have been a real hoot.....

Compare the country when he took over to where it ended up, prior to the destruction by the crusader coalition.

He died, in battle, against his enemies. When was the last time a government leader died in the field of battle? When was the last time a government leader actually went to a hot battle field?

Martyrs songs/tales are made of such things.

He didn't go to battle. He fled from the capital to Sirte, when Tripoli was freed. The war he had started against his people followed him there. He was killed in a failed attempt to flee again.

Was the way he died just?

It was good for the country. They can close that chapter now and don't have to deal with it in some trial. I saw a number of interviews on AlJazeera yesterday and everybody asked thought of this better than a trial.

If all the world's leaders suddenly dropped dead the world WOULD be a better place.

When you commit crimes as he did in my opinion you have lost your right to be treated as some may say fairly.

Would it not have been better, to have him captured, tried, and sentenced? After all, isnt that what "civilised" countries with a democracy do?

Hiring mercenaries to kill his own people was a huge error of judgement on his part and it became impossible for him to return to power mainly due to retribution issues.

Gaddifi had the option of handing over power to the rebels and leaving the country and thus minimising further killing. By not doing so he signed his own death certificate.

He will be remembered in the west for his alleged participation in many acts of terrorism around the world. Nothing more.

Isnt that part of what NATO was there for? To help the locals get rid of a despot, so "democracy" could be established? Got off to a great start havent they?

^Libyans started and finished this show. NATO is a fucking joke, just like the UN. And, like Iraq, and soon Afghanistan, nothing will change except there will be a new despot in place. A very good friend of mine died over Lockerbie, so this particular asshole has a special place on my list, but in the end, nothing much will change. One can always hope, but history doesn't prove it out.
