School Uniforms at Thai Universities and High Schools

Are there any Thai universities and high schools that do not force their students to wear school uniforms?

In the US you go to class in jeans and t's or whatever you want to wear.

Why do Thai unis and schools have this as a rule and name some that do not have the rule.

    TIA

    The university uniforms are great.
A splendid idea if i may say so, although i have no idea why young adults should have to wear them, other than the ladies do look rather fetching.

so they all look the same. University students tend to cut their uniform as they like for day to day use, but keep the one that fits code for those special occasions.

Same as the haircut just at the earlobe for girls M4 and under, and crew cuts for the boys M4 and under. Creates great thinkers and encourages freedom of expression it does. ha

So are there any laid back unis or schools that let a student wear jeans and a "t"?

The idea of a Uniform is to make all students exactly that, uniform. It is supposed to hide, for want of a better word the economic differences between students. Same goes for uniforms for high school.

Americans always seem to think school uniforms detract from a students "freedom" whereas in actual fact they do the opposite as all the students dress the same they are freer to concentrate on important stuff like learning. This is especially true in girls only schools.

Working in Rayong I was given a company uniform. Including long sleeved industrial shirts made of a material not unlike denim. It was too hot for me so I got some short sleeved cotton shirts made. Same colour even with company logo embroidered on them.
The boss asked "What are you wearing?" I said "The original shirts were too hot so this is my company uniform" His response "It's called uniform for a reason"

Aside from that long live the "I'm now old enough" black & white uniforms
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

The maturity level of Thai University students is just about equal to high school back in the states Chi. Some even lower like jr. high or so. All require uniforms, that I know of. Even if you study at an open uni like Ram or MST you must put on your uniform on campus.

    Yep.
When my son applied for entry to college they would not accept his application because he was not in uniform.
WTF? They wanted me to buy a uniform without knowing if he was accepted or not.
I told them to fuck off and went elsewhere.

They simply love their uniforms here. Just look at all the posters along the side of the road come election time, half the politicians dress up in uniform complete with faux medals. Fuck knows why.

Actually not all unis require uniforms. Thammasat for example does not and I am sure there are others.

You can correct me if I am wrong, but I understand that certain schools, vocational colleges etc frequently go at it with a fair degree of violence. Do you think the imposition of essentially identical school (or universities) uniforms lessen the chance of school (college) based violence or increase it?

As an additional point of interest, the people I work with (who obviously don't wear uniforms) say they prefered the Uni system as they did not have to make decisions each day on what to wear, were not likely to get involved in fashion "one upmanship", and it was a hell of a lot cheaper....

there is a choice between the normal uniform and a Nazi inspired version

incidentally, uniforms are worn in many schools in the UK; the parents prefer it and so do the schools

just a guess to name a few: reduces the financial status differences, saves parents money on no having to buy the kids higher cost name brand jeans and cloths, keeps the focus on education rather than the cloths so and so has on, school makes money or gets kick backs off uniform sales.

Ermm I gota say dude, I duno WHERE you get your informations from, BUT ; from what I have been told ALL thai student at university must wear the uniform. Im not saying this is a bad thing ,ok? Right, the obvious, the gals DO look very nice as they walk around the malls, rfor sure?

Anyways, I fully agree with this procedures. I was in the military service in Israel (of course) and dressing in uniform everyday for us guys brings good disciplines in latter life I believe.

Ok, so the Israeli girls also have to dress in uniforms, but ,Israeli girls in general are not the most handsome. My belief/opinion ok. no need to take offences.

I see you covered the Israeli female soldiers in your comment. I must say that when I with the Israeli military and walked the streets of Jerusalem and Eilat there were an overwhelming number of Israeli female soldiers in uniform that were, shall we say "tasty"... very attractive. Sorry to say that I am unable to comment what they might have looked like out of uniform...

It is a pity that some Israelis behave as if they were arseholes when in Thailand then, hardly disciplined
