It's not always about a quickie though but the availability of women.

For most of these lads the attraction is that they know they can easily find a nice "live-in" from the bars and when they get fed up with that one (or vice-versa) they can easily move on to the next then have the odd pop when the chance grabs them.

Isn't that true for many ex pats in Thailand, not just teflers?

Totally but most of it have the readies to poke every night if we so choose to.

My point is that it is unfair and untrue to tar everyone with the same brush. Teflers or any ex-pats. There are stereotypes being bandied about. That is just what they are stereotypes.

Actually, 'handshandy, I was basing my thesis on empirical evidence whereas your apologia seems to be more doctrinal than anything else, like so many of the would be chattering classes who prefer to see the world through their own disorted prism rather than as it actually is. Classifying a discordant view to their own as stereoptypical thinking is, well, typical of their blinkered myopia.

I would hardly call your personal experience and observations a thesis that could have any chance of being proven

when you and your acquaintances are mere whoremongers, then, of course, your "thesis" will only hold true for that dataset, not for the world at large

Ah your sister clearly isn't a TEFLer then. For TEFLers ThB 199 is way too much for a pair of shoes and a restaurant charging more than ThB 100 for a meal is expensive.

I am acutely aware that prices here are very reasonable compared with Europe and the US and I'm pleased to learn your sister enjoyed her holiday here.

The sham UK marriage thread reminded me of a TEFLer who once asked me to bring his US tax Returns up to date in a hurry.

He had been offered ThB 25,000 to marry a Thai girl in order to help her get a US passport and wanted to bring his tax affairs up to date.

I quoted a fee of thB 30,000 and never heard any more.

That is certainly true, as broad a spectrum of TEFLers as there is expats.

We had a guy worked with us. He was on good money. Right boring old big head, his only topic was himself. Married with children in Australia, all he talked about was his big house and his big car back at home.

One day we were talking about the fact that in time it is a stated policy of the comapny to reduce the number of expats to zero.

He said "I just don't want to leave, I'm so attached to Thailand"

I said "Why so? you don't even have family here, my wife and kids are Thai and I've been here for years, but when the time comes I'll happily move on to the UK or the ME or wherever"

"Huh he says, that's alright having family, but I need the girls, the bars"

I was astounded to hear a bloke in his fifties talk like this (he also had a reputation for trying to shag girls in the office, he had one on the 4th floor, right ugly one as well.....)

Anyway he was let go about 2 months after this conversation. He refuses to leave.... he has been here looking for work for the last 17 months.... nothing at all.... must have cost him over 300,000 USD in lost wages in that time. Still in the bars, still shagging, and still going on about his big house and big car.

Why doesn't he go and fucking live in it then?????

At a quick guess, i would say because he failed to mention that they actually belong to his now ex-wife, who found out about the bars and the shagging.....

Nope, he is still married....she regularly comes over to stay with the children during school holidays.

He used to have to move the live in GF out to stay with a colleague and his wife, but she became a bit of a lush so he canned her and justs hires by the hour now.
