    Decent copy watches

I know this should probably go in the BKK forum, but it might get seen by more people here, so sorry DD.

Heading out to Thailand next week to see little boy. My fiance & my brother in law have requested (eherm) 'Rolexes'. Will be in Bangkok for short periods of time both before & after seeing littl'un. Any suggestions of where to go to get decent examples of said watches? I know the ideal place in HH, but I won't be going there.

Cheers for any suggestions. Will probably need directions, too as BKK ain't exactly familiar to me.

Tourist areas are the best places.

Patpong, Lower Sukhumvit, Chiang Mai market. Be prepared to bargain hard. There may be other areas someone else will recommend. Many years ago I paid 500 baht a piece for a couple of nice-looking watches. Gave one away(that crapped out soon after) and the other (a Brietling copy) lasted me a good 3 years before I fell off a mountain bike and landed on it. I survived (I'm sure you'll be glad to hear) but the watch didn't.

I went to a shop in NZ afterwards and told them my copy watch had been pretty good for a few years, and the watch seller looked a little dismayed. "That's not good" were his exact words, as I recall.

Anyway the moral of the story is... Bargain hard, and it's a bit of a gamble whether the watch will still be running after a few months.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

Cheers. Are there any actual shops, rather than stalls? The reason I ask is that the place in HH is an actual watch shop. The copies aren't cheap cheap - about 3,000 bt, but they are quite good & last longer than your average one. That's the sort of thing I'm looking for.

    MBK Shopping Mall in Bangkok

3rd floor I think has a host of stalls selling them , there are different grades mind you
    and different automatic movements inside

the cheap shit will have chinese automatic movements , the better will use a seiko
    automatic movement

the best copies that will cost around 10,000 baht have a ETA movement inside

Have a drink in one of the outside bars in Cowboy... You'll soon be approached by an Indian/Paki/Bangladeshi selling them. Dont go for the real 'chunky' rolexes though, they tend to screw up quicker. Biggest problem is the metal bracelets... they corrode and go crap in no time - change for a decent leather strap and they're ok.

There are also markets that sell them, but I cant recall the names right now.

Oh and UK customs can be fussy if they find them coming back. They *usually* turn a blind eye to one or two though. Best to throw away all packaging and fake 'certificates' that may come with them.

    Fiance!? Congratulations!!

Go through Patpong market to the end of the block where the market runs out, on the corner to the right outside the 7/11 the watch stall there has some great copies, three different price ranges, cheap obviously is what you will find elsewhere, but under the counter they have some much better quality watches locked away which you'll pay a bit more for, and there's also some top quality copies that you'll pay top money for.

Take some cutouts from magazines for what they want, no guarantee that you will find the exact same, but probably something similar, a good indicator of the quality is the machining on the winding wheel and how sure the mechanisim feels as you click it in and out to adjust the watch.

    Good luck.

Few years back I paid B1500 for a "Rolex" in Samui . I normally use my phone for the time and had woken on the flight over not having a clue how long I'd been sleeping or how long until touchdown . So a couple of days before my return I decided a watch was required . I managed to haggle him down from B2500 and was well chuffed with myself . I was actually at Don Muang when I noticed the minute hand had fallen off ! By the time I got to Heathrow the bloody face had fallen off as well . Served me right for feeling smug .

the quality of fakes is pretty bad in Thailand, if you want a real good fake take a trip to Hong Kong and then go to Shenzhen which is just on the other side of the mainland border. As soon as you pass immigration there is a huge shopping center selling anything and everything you need.

A friend of mine who loves watches has a fair collection of real and fake.

He swears the only real quality copy watches he has found here are as stated before on the 3rd Floor of MBK.

If you stand outside Fotofile on the 3rd floor, walk to the left and then turn right across the face of the escalators. When on the other side of the building, turn left and along there, there are a couple of good stalls.

The Indians who sell along Sukhumvit are cheap, I've never failed to get one for 600 THB but you get what you pay for.... (even though he knows me we still go through the bargaining and it usually takes a beer or two....)

If you do wanna deal with these guys for cheaper versions, I have one of the guys numbers and will PM it to you if you want, he will come to you.

Depends on what you want to spend.

Why? I had a real Yachtmaster before I moved to Thailand. It came up missing when I went through a divorce. Sadly my insurance would not even cover it and the police said it was a civil matter. I think it was her brother that snagged it. It would not have hurt too bad if it was fake. Plus I bought a knock off at JJ market and it lasted 5 years. Everyone in the US thought it was real too.

    Nana Area Sukhum soi 5.

There is a shop that sells really good copies between 1,500 and 2,500k.

I've had mine for just over 3 years and it's still going strong. The shop is out of the way down an ally somewhere. I'll ask the missus later the exact place if you're still looking.
