"If you're not a liberal at 20, your college friends won't think you're an 'intellectual'. If you're still a liberal at 40, you probably smoked too much dope with your college friends." - Lewis Napper

So I actually believe it's perfectly natural to compromise some of your ideals even if you have no better reason than convenience.
So throughout my 30s, 40s. and 50s. I continued to rationalize changes in my philosophy (without cutting my pony tail, BTW) and to this day I don't know why. For example, I used to be convinced of the need of a another U.S. civil war but now believe the 1776 revolution was a good war and was the only civil war the U.S.A. will ever need.
"Like Karl Marx, many people in political leadership positions today have adopted the attitude that it is necessary to force their ideas on the people who they think are simply not smart enough to understand what is “good” for them. This migration away from personal freedom and toward government dominance started long before the current administration took power. The effects are now blatantly obvious even to those who have been asleep at the wheel for decades " - Dr. Ben Carson

Get busy living or get busy dying
Life is short
The World is a mere dream to the idle

Man has to die once and once only
He should make his death glorious

In his chamber, weak and dying,
While the Norman Baron lay,
Loud without, his men were crying,
"Shorter hours and better pay".
And gentlemen in England, now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.
