    Morrissey stirs the pot (again)

Morrissey, animal rights advocate and former frontman for the brilliant 80's rock band The Smiths, is not new to controversy. His anti-immigration views, exemplified in his lyrics to Bengali In Platforms (' life is hard enough when you belong here'), are well-known. Recently, Morrissey made the following comment regarding the treatment of animals in China:

"Did you see the thing on the news about their treatment of animals and animal welfare? Absolutely horrific. You can't help but feel that the Chinese are a subspecies."

This is a thread on Morrissey as a musician and social critic. Personally, I feel that he is one of pop music's more fascinating and thought-provoking personalities. Regarding his anti-immigration views, he seems to be more of a natiivist concerned with preserving Britain's cultural identiy than a run-of-the-mill racist. The above statement on the Chinese is indefensible (treatment of animals in China has cultural and not racial origins), although I'd like to believe that he was caught up in the emotions of his animal rights advocacy.

Cycling up through eastern laos which are mostly tracks with small rivers to cross and then yunnan province china,,,, one thing you do notice is the lack of wildlife ,,even the birds. you don't hear any birds. if you do see them they are for someones dinner(fair enough) but some are smaller than a budgie. if i saw a cat in yunnan ,it was tied up for whatever reason. beautiful countries but no animals.

Same as some places in the PI. No bird song in a mornings, etc. Not totally unexpected in countries where fish harvests are routinely dynamited / poisoned, though. I think these people are actually a sub-species of locust.

I dunno about "cultural" reasons for the mistreatment of animals in China. Seems more to be about financial reasons; ie; the cheap cunts saving the cost of stunning or humanely killing food / fur sources.

A couple of cultural vids here: Warning: Fucking horrific.

Morrissey is great, we need more like him and John Lydon and George Carlin etc...

I believe humans are a subspecies on the whole, so there's no point in trying to change anything.

shocking kmart. foked if i can understand that treatment of animals. question is who are the animals in the vid.
normally some animals get aggressive in the mating season or when they're hungry otherwise they don't say booo to a goose.
cruel cruel people to allow that.
shame on the people who allow it.

Did Morrissey not die with self pity of his own self worthlessness ?

Some of the Smiths material did get a bit whiney, but I listen to it now and it rocks, swings and will be eternal ( bar a few, like 'girlfriend in a coma' which sucks). Brilliant band, with Morrisey, outstanding and unique vocals.

Yes, but the chinese take the biscuit in cruelty to animals; even their own exploited (human?) plebs, grinding away in the sweatshops giving them the exporting economic might for a global take over...Hardly communism in its true form, is it...IMO of course.

. Regarding his anti-immigration views have you got to see with your own eyes what a dump Britains become - hes probably sick of these kind of stories -
Jailed: Harrogate Indian restaurant boss who traded staff like slaves - Yorkshire Post
A WOMAN who treated staff like slaves at a well-known Yorkshire restaurant was jailed for three years today.
Parveen Khan was 55-years-old when she was convicted earlier this year of people trafficking -nine men were recruited from India, Pakistan and the Middle East with promises of good wages and conditions but once in Yorkshire they had their passports and other documents seized and were forced to work long hours often seven days a week for little or no pay.

    slavery in britain in 2010................

As regards the chinese , it seems like natures has got bored ,and is churning out the same unimaginative bland copy, over and over again.
We say Happy New Year , they say Prosperous New Year ... that sums them up perfectly

    I didn't enjoy this video.

Makes you wonder doesn't it, I think life for all living things is just about the avoidance of suffering.

The Chinese are pretty cruel, but there's lots of them so it's quantity not quality with some races.

I was hungry before watching that.
    Shocking!!
Doesn't put me off eating meat like it would some, but in this day and age that's gotta be outlawed.
And it's only done to make the fur come off easier then that's sick.
But on the flip side I can see how the video makers don't mention the real reason is it tenderises the meat
