    Banking Error

I went along to my local Kasikorn Bank on Thursday to change £2000, (£200 x 10) sterling travellers cheques and transfer the baht equivilent into my account.

As usual i asked someone to photocopy the cheques and my passport details before i went to speak with the teller.

Following the transaction the teller passed me a receipt for the transfer which read that i had deposited cheques to the value of £20,000, almost 1 million baht instead of almost 100,000 baht.

    Should i -

    1. Have asked for cash at that particular point?

    2. Kindly inform her of the error and make light of it?

    3. Say nothing and see what transpires?

Bottom line: it's not your money, can't get around that simple fact.

Option 1 is not an option as is proven every time one of these stories comes up. Option 2 is obviously the right thing to do but I would probably go for option 3 and just enjoy whatever show transpires, if any.

So . . . how long before you put us out of our misery and tell us your outcome?

....the real issue....is do you want to do jail time in Thailand....

Believe me you won't be the monkey..or ''ling''..might need to brush up on your Thai

....as a multipal choice question I would have gone for....[2.]
as an answer....failing that ''DO'' brush up on your Thai...

One other thing, comes to mind....you could have asked her out....you've got money....

Maybe in the west but not in Thailand.
Pointing out her mistake will cause her to lose face.
Say nothing and it will be quietly rectified behind the scenes and remain hidden.

If the amount in question was relatively insignificant I might agree but in this case you are placing yourself on the wrong side of the law.

A B900,000 mistake does warrant a certain amount of face loss.

Reverse the error and then consider what your reaction would/should be.

Sometimes, just sometimes(!), the right thing in the West is also the right thing in Thailand.

You have to be kidding. The first thing you want to be doing is pointing out the error and making sure others know about it.

If not you leave yourself wide open for a scam from an employee.

My reaction was to inform the teller of her error immediately.

She was a young girl who was probably trying to make a decent career for herself and it might have proved a great deal of embarassment for her should her bosses have discovered her error later.

She was extremely grateful that i had told her but as i had my wife with me at the time she wasn't able to display how REALLY grateful she may have been.

I slept well that night and had a very pleasant dream!

....there seems to be an incentive for you to bank there....if your Missus will ever let you go to that bank alone....in this life...

..don't be fooled, the Missus has probably already arranged a video link from the banks main frame....

....failing that...she will just rely on Thai gossip....

I never go near another bank...I mightn't ever leave the house again....

I wouldn't let the loved one play with sharp knives, around bed time....
especially if she has a dreamy look on her face....or you pissed her off...

as a matter of a fact I think I would flee the country....take the young thing from the bank.....and why stop at 900k....make a good thing of it....she will probably leave you when the money runs out....so take a shit load...they can only jail you once.......it might develop in true love .... Rio nice... say hello to Ron..

Unfortunately that's exactly what would happen.

    Bummer Eh.
