, didn't feel to bad about that they are all crooks anyway
Yep that's good thinking , sell it to a dealer - wonder what he does with it ?

People like you need to be given a good boot up the you know what - you deseve all you get from dealers - when did YOU last give a dealer a full list of all the items wrong or in need of repair when you sold it to him so he could pass the information along or make the necessry repairs?
I have known many dealers over many years - never seen them put a fault IN a car yet?
Most of the so called "crooks" are not licensed dealers at all , just backyarders buying and selling cars illegally - buy from them and save money - they don't have to comply with a mountain of legislation and compliance - and get what you deserve.
I knew what he was going to do with it, give it to his Son, next time I called around he told me they had put a new (reconditioned) engine in, he did not blame me he knew that's the
name of the game he played with his costumers himself
,( crap , he just recognised you for the shonk you are and went along with it because it suited him) just as people at the time bought from him with 1 month warranty, after that your problem. ( how much warranty did you give?)
Costumers? was he in the rag trade as well?

And if you have never heard of garages cheating people you must have been living in some kind of cocoon, because it happens every day, motorist organizations works with complaints in their hundreds every year, and that includes proper brand dealerships aswell, on top you have garages cheating with service ect. ect.

This is the reason ever more stringent consumer protection laws have been implemented the last many years, because there was good reason to.

Besides I have two personal friends owning car dealerships, one Ford dealer in England and a Renault dealer in Europe, and they have told me plenty of tricks and the goings on even today Mate.

So better if you try to boot yourself, you might wake up to the harsh reality's
Listen Mate I have been a licensed dealer for over 40 years and yes I have seen some rogues and fired a few rogue salesmen but far and away the greatest liars and cheats are in the general public - not all, but many - unlike you I won't generalise to justify my own lack of ethics.
Every dealer has a " never to be sold to again book" -I have sat on "fair trading tribunals" and caught them out lying under oath - never lost a tribunal hearing yet, even when the clerks at "Fair Trading" have told them "He's a dealer so you may as well have a go" ! ( they're so "fair and unbiased").
Yes there are plenty of tricks but if you are licensed dealer you Don't want the agro and you Do want the repeat business!
Next I suppose you'll tell me all dealers wind speedos back?
All dealers wind speedos back.

Gee it's a wonder they don't get caught seeing as every car they buy has the mileage recorded at purchase , and the mileage sold , and the mileage on the roadwothy certificate, and the mileage on the aquisition form, and the mileage on the transfer form, and the mileage on the vehicle sale notice in the car on offer?
If bought at auction the condition report shows the mileage as well.
And this happens throughout the entire history of the vehicle.
Must be so hard to check back and see when the mileage reversed and who owned it then?
Fitting a replacement odometer doesn't work either because a LICENSED dealer is required to put a mileage on the replacement as an expert estimate of the probable mileage, based on the age of the vehicle ( usually 20,000klms per year as a generally accepted average).
The only ones who still try are those new arrivals that come from countries where laws and regulations are only a suggestion and think there is a quick buck in being a motor dealer - doesn't take long for them to come undone , and the fines are heavy.

^^^ You are taking this far to personal, obviously not ALL used car dealers are crooks, that was with tongue in cheek, but nevertheless that business have a justified bad reputation, like it or not. After all buying used cars is about getting it for less than it is really worth and selling it for more, so don't you even dare lecture me on ethics, I have never been a salesman

I brought 4 cars from that Guy over time 2 after the Grenada, and you have no clue as to our relationship, so what's with the name-calling ?. You need to get over yourself "Mate"

And yes not all but some dealers used to wind speedos back some undoubtedly still do, breaking laws and regulations forging paperwork ect. is not exactly unheard off, but not so easy now with the factory's of some models keeping track of the electronic speedos so you can check back with the factory's records of your specific car.

yes.
perhaps there are crooks out there.
...but think about this:
you sell a car that has absolutely nothing wrong with it at time of sale.
your grandma drove it for 20 fukkn years and it never had a problem
....then some ignorant twat comes and buys it for a low price, and pulls it through his arse in three days; blows the motor and burns out the clutch, then wants his money back 'coz you sold him a dud car.consumer protection laws are probably on his side, so both you and grandma dip out.

fukkit!
when i was younger, a friend "bought" a secondhand rolls royce.
the fukkn thing was perfect, but he had it for the weekend to "try it out"(mommy had guaranteed to pay, and the salesman thought he had a done sale)

well we took the thing to the racetrack and did timed laps for the whole day, every driver trying his best to break the bloody thing.
it did seven laps of the motocross track too, suffered severe burnouts, and as much abuse as a bunch of twenty-something year olds could think to put it through, and survived.
was taken back to the salesman on the monday with a :"naaah, want something more sporty"!!

we all thought it was hilarious at the time, but fukkitt!
screw the fukkn consumer!
let the buyer beware!
consumer protection laws just open the whole system to abuse.
it is easy to check out a secondhand car for defects, and if anybody gets caught by a salesman, it is just because the buyer is an ignorant twat who did not do his homework, or failed to get the car checked out properly first.
brrrzzzzt, brrrzzzt!
beep!. ting, ting
redirecting, please be patient..........:

hello, insect!

- this is what gets my back up ! - you grizzle about dealers buying for less and selling for more ? - based on this logic you must really hate your jeweller , grocer , publican , winemaker , butcher , etc etc ad infinitum?

so don't you even dare lecture me on ethics, I have never been a salesman - you wouldn't last 5 minutes as a missionary salesman, you couldn't handle the rejection rate and be able to regenerate the intestinal fortitude to start over time and time again.
And I will dare to lecture you on ethics when you show a biased hypocritical disregard for ethics and fair thinking.

And yes not all but some dealers used to wind speedos back(and so did the private sector) some undoubtedly still do, breaking laws and regulations forging paperwork ect. is not exactly unheard off, but not so easy now with the factory's of some models keeping track of the electronic speedos so you can check back with the factory's records of your specific car.
Okay maybe I am taking this a bit to personally for that I apologise but after listening to clowns getting pats on the back for selling a dudd to a dealer and then the same hypocritical pack of pricks crying their eyes out if they get sold a lemon I just get a bit stroppy.

You've had your say and I've had mine , let's leave it at that.

hey, i had one of those, too!
v8 with 5 speed gearbox.
fukkn GREAT car!
went really well and towed my huge home-made caravan like a dream, AND lighter on gas than my wife's vw passat 1600 at the tme!
driver's seat collapsed and switchgear and stoopid hidden central locking fuse was a problem (build quality), but easy to fix myself, and i would buy another tomorrow!
to be honest, i had MUCH more shit from the 260e mercedes i traded it in on eventually.
i believe the engine was a shelved buic project that the poms rescued and made it work
powered morgans and tvr's too, so no plomplem in THAT dept.

...and just how many times in a car's lifetime are you gonna fill it with water to check if the doors are gonna fall off or not, ffs?!!!
I had one of those as well, (same colour as that pic) bloody great car, comfortable smooth, fast and reliable. I basically drove it into the ground but it took a LOT of punishment.
I have a great memory of hammering it at 160kmh most of the way from Barcaldine to Charleville one afternoon. The sky was low hanging grey and everything was wet, the ambient light was rich and gorgeous as opposed to the bright washed out sunlight usually experienced in those parts. The road had just been remade, new seal, long sweeping curves and 3 lanes most of the way, bloody lovely. like my own personal racetrack.

after it had been delivered, i laid the bloody thing out and took a flying jump at it (as one does with a new mattress)!, and nearly broke my back!

turned out to be a cardboard box covered with a centimetre thick layer of foam enclosed in some expensive looking fabric!

no refund due to the farang-shaped dent right in the centre of it

did the same! im proper cracking up remembering that cheers tsi

2nd hand Mercedes 240 D.
I was young and stupid.
Turned out this motor was an ex taxi with probably about 20 million miles on the clock. Also been in a bender which meant I had to replace my left front tire every other month or so. Just about everything mechanically was either broken or about to break. Spent a small fortune on fixing the damn thing and to get it through MOT.
One harsh winter I just couldn't get the fucker to start anymore (nor could my mechanic mate) so decided to remove the plates and just left it parked in the street. No idea what happened to it.

I popped out to get some vegetables for my dinner and came bake with a motorbike and a puppy.

Wouldn't say it was the worst purchase ever, but definitely the strangest.

First house in the UK. I must be the only bloke that's ever lost money on bricks and mortar in England (pre: 2000). Sold it for a song after new housing / building regs became effective, and the cost of modernization just wasn't worth it.

In my younger days went to a boat sale to buy a trailer for my boat, one came up with alloy boat and 40hp non working engine included, fixed the engine took it out to try it, went well ,at speed jets of water ,were coming from the rivet holes and more rivets kept popping out, so sold the boat and engine and kept the trailer, made a loss on that one.

I spent right at B20,000 for a top of the line sprinkler system (fancy website) for our BKK home. The Thai boss and workers installed the Chinese made unit and everything worked well for almost a week....

Put up with the usual crap of them coming over once a week to 'adjust' the computers and making excuses.

Finally, fired the company.

Now we are back to the maid or us doing the watering. Lucky, the rainy season is here...

You guys know any good sprinkler companies?

Just now thought of this one. Bought a used 1970 Chevy pickup back in the early 80s. Sounded nice and drove just as well. Took this green beast home and parked it on the driveway.

Next morning when I saw a pool of oil under the truck, I was told that sawdust was the reason this baby ran so smooth to begin with. $900 gone...

2 years ago I payed 2k for a " Tour De France " racing bike, carbon fiber and all the good shit on it.

On the way home to my gaff which was 4 klm away the bike slipped out of my bike carrier and smashed onto the road.

Game over, the bike was fuked.

I had it for 45 minutes.

My first car when I wass 17 yrs old , a Volkswagen Beetle ,, oh dear .

Being young and just licenced to drive I was keen as custard to get me first motor on the road ,, caught a bus from Colchester to Clacton to look at it , with the idea in my head of driving it home , arrived winter night pissin down with rain etc , just did,nt see it comin ,,,,,,, Ah ! I was greeted by the seller , come in young man and have a nice cup of tea , now this here is my severly disabled daughter , she has no legs , and I am only selling this nice car to buy an electric wheelchair for her etc ( nearly in tears and I havent even seen the car yet )

Ok out we go he fires it up ,, sounds nice ,, stood in a small lake of water and its still pissin down , so I aint gonna lay in it and look underneath ,, he wants to get back in the dry ,, " are you ok ?? have the money ? have to get back to my daughter "

Hands over the dough , drives back to Colchester ,, I swung left at the first roundabout , the lights went out , it all went quiet ,, the engine had left the car and laid in the middle of the roundabout .

When my mate looked at the remains of my car he told me the whole thing was as rotten as a pear , scrap value about £5 ,,,, when I phoned the nice man back about the pile of cack he fobbed off onto me , all I got was,,,,,,,,, didnt you remember why I sold this ! my daughter cannot walk !! dont hassle me , go away !

Yeah I know green as grass live and learn
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
