They should have thought it through

They should have thought it through...

Last week I posted here the I’ll thought out piece of sponsorship by the Tourist Authority of Thailand when their logo was placed on the Red Bull Racing F1 cars at the British GP, meaning that the “Amazing Thailand” logo appeared next to the word “Bull” in many photos.

This case of not thoroughly thinking your company logo or signage through properly led me to recall and experience I had in Amsterdam a few years back Picture the scene if you will…..

Amsterdam Central station is a much photographed landmark for tourists as it is a historical building (1881) and it is easy to capture other typically Dutch images in the same frame (bicycles / trams / canals etc)

Whilst walking past the station, I was approached by a couple of tourists. This middle aged couple from Yorkshire England (I am a Brit so I know the accent) asked me if I wouldn’t mind taking their photograph in front of the station. I obliged and took the camera from the gentleman. They requested a photo of them standing in front of a canal, with the station behind.

I lined the shot up quite nicely with the station buildings in the background and the beaming couple in the foreground standing next a canal boat tour sign with the writing “The Lovers….Amsterdam Canal Tours”. Very sweet I don’t mind saying so myself.

I then noticed the gentlemen was holding two bags of shopping which I thought made them look as if they had just came out of Tesco’s, and so I invited the guy to leave his bags with me while I take the photo. The bloke agreed that this was a good idea and so places the shopping with me, and the walks back to his wife who is still posing by the canal tour sign.

I again size up the photo, applying a little zoom here and adjusting the brightness settings. I then notice that the guy has walked back and is now obscuring the letter “C’ in the words “Canal Tours”, meaning we now a have a potential photo of the romantic couple on the Amsterdam city break in front of the Amsterdam Station and canal, standing next to a sign proudly stating “The Lovers…….Amsterdam ANAL Tours”

I could just imagine the scenes when this guy showed his family and work colleagues back home the photos of his “Amsterdam Anal Tour” I thought better of it and suggested the guy take a step to his right and so the word “Canal” was revealed entirely.

Like I said….they should have thought it through….

Further examples where “they should have thought it through” are below……Enjoy
