Question Mercy millipede killing and Buddhism

I don't really like seeing any animal suffer, unless it's a mosquito - fuck those cunts, if I hit one and I send it to the floor twitching and crippled I simply pick it up and put it on my hand and invite it to bite me and ask it what it's waiting for, then drop it in a urinal - anyway...

Outside my gaff* there's a millipede what has been half squashed and he's writhing about and being all in pain and stuff which doesn't put Scampy at ease. I was going to finish him off with a bottle but the security guard stopped me and said a load of stuff I don't understand.

He then kicked the poor thing out of the way and the millipede (affectionately known as Oliver by my fellow expat locals) was really scared but was unable to do the cumberland sausage properly on account of his condition.

So I just left it in the end, but now I can't sleep knowing that poor Oliver is trying to get back to the bushes with half his body flattened and oozing fluorescent yellow blood, it's detrimental to the progress of my mission to overcome chronic insomnia, as is cheese and dairy products.

What would you do, and why do Thai folk turn a blind eye to suffering?

Oh, dear. This one scrapes the barrel.

Millipedes are thought by Thais to be poisonous which is what the guard would have been warning you about if this were true. If it were true, yes, you should kill it. Stamp on it with your bare feet, Scamps.

    NB

For those who think I may be acting like a twat.

Dilligaf is an acronym for what I said.

Last time I encountered one my nipper was being chased out of the kitchen by it, I went at it with can of insect killer in one hand and a bamboo stick in the other. Nasty fuckers and I wouldn't have them anywhere near kids

To be fair I crapped my pants at the last one in our kitchen. I boke the carefour metal brush with the first swipe but it didn't kill it. I danced around like a girl for a few seconds as it ran for the door and then I slamed it shut when it was half way through.

    That would be wise.

When you have kids in D house you just got to man up and tackle the beast. You of course grossly exagerated the size of the beast to epic preportions when you are down the Full Moon Bar later that night
    It wasn't me!

    Oh noooooo, thats really scarey.

I am not a total woozz, its just snakes but the idea of a snake like insect with legs, that happens to have a venomous bite.

In cambodia after 1/2 bottle of dutch courage i ate three deep fried tarantulas for a bet, disgusting, tasted like hairy liquorice !

The one I nailed in the Philippines had a very dark brown body with golden yellow legs. It must have been at least a foot and a half long and was coming at me nashing it's horrible fucking pincers violently at me.
The real bastard was the speed of the beastie, I thought the fucker was on steroids it was so quick.

The OP is about a millipede which are non-venomous, and when threatened, curl up in a Swiss-roll type defense manoevre which is endearing and probably not very effective.
The millipede and the Thai security guard are roughly on the same scale of evolution, and will probably swap roles in the next life, according to Buddha.

I think they come out when it's been raining mostly so that might prepare you better.

I heard that some thai people drink the centipedes's poison (venom?) in whiskey to give them energy. Not sure if it's true or not.

Indeed Mr Bower, you would be better served having a phobia about them centipedes than being nonchalant about them. Nasty things they are and far more likely to bite you than any snake in Thailand that I know of, and the katoeys you can see a mile off anyways.
After having tackled the one in the Philippines I took to keeping the house spotless and during the rainy season I put poison under the cooker, fridge and anywhere else they were likely to be hold up for the rain to stop.

A restaurant worker we knew got bitten on the neck by one of them in her sleep and was seriously ill for a few weeks, might have been an allergic reaction with her that made her so ill but even so, I hate the bastards!
