The controversy over the origin of the Thai shows no sign of definite conclusion.

I have a Chinese "GF" in Spain.
I spent a whole evening looking for common ground between the two lingos and found none, regional thing maybe.
I the last 1000 odd years there have been 30 odd versions of Thai script, usually initiated by the kings of the day, and hence the lingo has morphed considerably.

Inscriptions in Thai writing only began to appear around 700 years ago.

Thai people can snack their own body-weight in a single day. A feat unknown outside the realm of insects.

They can also fall asleep on top of a wall.

I'm pretty sure they can fall asleep anywhere, but of course sometimes it is difficult to tell whether they are awake. Bangkok is the only city in the world where I have asked a taxi driver, in all seriousness, if he would like me to drive (those guys are overworked).

One thing I like is the civilians can shop at Military PX stores here. I get great discounts on my booze, milk, some veggies, hell even prepaid phone cards are about 10% cheaper. 2 Just around the corner from my house. Plus they dont enforce the silly times to buy liquor.

^^ I think that Indigenous Malay have the greatest inclination to fall asleep at the most inappropriate occasions.
One taxi driver fell asleep at the wheel while driving me to KL airport, the combination of scraping along the dividing wall and my screaming, he woke up.

    Tsk, tsk . . . inappropriate to some . . .

The worst is during Ramadan month when they're fasting and have no strength. Take Chinese and Indian taxi drivers instead, though they will rip you off even more but their breath will be better
