Reds plan next Bangkok rally in June 2010

    Tulsathit

"Regrouping reds have announced another Bangkok rally in June (matichon online)"

    FYI
The UDD ('Reds') last undertook a rally in Bangkok during April and May 2010. The parting words of that rally was a stated intention for a swift reunion.

Lets hope they receive permission to base the June rally in a nice big area ( I recommend the park next to 'Emporium'), rather than just roam willy-nilly around the entire city.

    Pretty much.

While I consider it charming how all the Reds' torchbearers (especially those who claim they have no interest in any of this) keep rooting for another violent confrontation (all the while claiming to condemn the wanton violence that has transpired) - because, really, that's all the likes of Moog, Sabang, et al are doing by rooting for a return and rise of the Reds. You are wistfully hoping for more violence and more destruction, because that is *ALL* that the Reds would be planning on doing...

Which is why they will not be receiving any permission for another party next month, and why they will get their asses kicked if they try.

    ^ That's what I thought.
Even the Issan folk who used to work in Bkk before losing in the riots are pissed off.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see an uprising of Bangkok folks if the reds try this shit again. The government were so utterly inept letting it grow and grow for 6 weeks and did nothing when the carnage came. I think Bangkokians might well take the law into their own hands...I could be wrong, maybe they'll all hide at home, but right now they are seriously pissed.

I aim to not be here as well. No reporting from the front line for me again. I'm out of here!

I'm fairly sure there will be regular demonstrations until an election date is set. Hopefully not the same sort of mass demonstration that we've just seen, culminating in violence.

Seems those not living in Thailand appear to have a better grasp on the dynamics than those making vain prophecies, yet living in Thailand.

I don"t think the government acted inept. Can you imagine the outcry if they tried a less soft approach with maybe hundreds of protesters shot?

I think some Bkk Isan will leave for other fleshpots, their pimps'll go with 'em and fight in places.
This'll screw the drug trade around a bit.

The long term Isan Bkk working residents don't want their relies coming back and taking over again.

One thing about the 'moo bahn' system of rural Thailand is it does allow for a large pool of itinerant, casual labour.
Basically, when there is no work, or it is low season for tourism, they just go back to the moo bahn. When there is work available, they can start again at short notice. My wife and I have been asked to start an informal 'labour exchange' up here, to supply security guards and construction crew for a company that constantly needs them down south. Could be interesting.

We own a condo in the white building shown here. Not there at this juncture though. We were in residence when the rally started and it was peaceful.

    Not quite what I meant.

The government or their armed forces had plenty of opportunities to nip it in the bud a long time before they did. They didn't, so they either didn't because they hoped the reds would self destruct at some point (which has kind of happened) or they were inept. Either way, it should've been ended a lot earlier....it got totally out of control.

Whatever the governments reasons or failings, they are responsible for the security situation and it was not secure. In fact it was lawless.

Whats that, Moog - The Witthayu Complex? I nearly bought a place there about 5 years ago, was quite a good bargain but the condo was a very strange layout (floor plan), and the building seemed quite empty too.

I think the Thai military were too weak to subdue the red shirts in the first instance. That's why it took 6 weeks. Conscript soldiers can't be expected to know/learn everything in basic training. The government realised this in their first attempt to clear the protesters. The big delay was then caused by them singling out loyal troops and training them for the final assault. There's a lot to be said for non-conscripted personnel.

After the antics of the last few months don't expect much demand for Isaan staff 'down south'. Plenty of people have been laid off due to this red shirt BS and the resulting economic problems, and many more will be in the coming weeks and months.

Next protest in June? Well wouldn't surprise me in the very least - reds are very well organized and I am sure they planned for every contingency.
