Thread: What's wrong with attention whoring?

It's a personality trait that many have, yet one which is pointed out at every opportunity on this forum as if it is a bad thing. Other members don't get auto lambasted for their personality traits so why do I?

Technically my recent mini meltdown was not attention whoring, it was self expression using swear words, and being that everybody else uses TeakDoor to vent frustration and alcoholic rage, contempt, bitterness and animosity toward others then why the fuck can't I?

The late, great George Carlin once said that when he was at school there were only three 'A's that he wanted and that was Attention, Admiration and Applause, and being somebody who has always strived to entertain (which requires getting peoples attention) then I know where he was coming from.

It's fair to say that I should be working on something creative instead of writing crap on here but having been underpaid, ripped off and used by Crapital TV who, like so many small media companies here use and abuse creative people, designers, photographers etc, because they nestle snugly into the corrupt and lawless nature of this country - and this has deflated me big time, crushing my spirit and drive and left me without faith or the desire to invest in better equipment - something i'll do in Japan when I reboot myself.

TeakDoor is probably the most negative environment I wallow in, and these days it seems as if everybody on here seems to hate each other and it doesn't inspire me to post anything other than shit, crap, toss, wank and piss. When I spend long periods on here it's because I'm pissed off about something, usually the state of my life at that time - what's everyone else's excuse for their non productive online behavior, (attention seeking or not) or does it go without saying that it's the same?

Nothing wrong with it Scamp, I find attention whores very interesting and some very amusing,,,,,keep it up

Why is it that Attention Whores moan about being called "Attention Whores", when by being called an Attention Whore it's exactly the attention that the aforementioned Attention Whore is after in the first place.

Properly defined, an attention whore is a label given to any person who craves attention to such an extent that they will do anything to receive it. The type of attention (negative or positive) does not matter.

Examples are people who stick their tongue out in photos, people who engage in coprophilia and have it filmed, Paris Hilton, those who dress to stand out, streakers and to a lesser extent - people who have a Twitter or MySpace page or similar blog which bleats on about themselves like a public diary.

Though I admit that I do enjoy seeing what reaction I get from my posts from my posts, I am none of the above, which may come as a surprise to those of you who are lacking perceptiveness but it's true, I subscribe to none of the above.

I talk about myself because I enjoy writing from my own point of view and no matter how lacking in quality the content is it will be to either defend or entertain myself. If it entertains others or makes somebody laugh (be it at me or with me) then that's great. It feels good to laugh, let's try it.. Yeah that felt good.

I prefer any attention I get to be positive, I can't understand how anyone would prefer negative attention and act accordingly to attract it.

Being self conditioned to be somewhat contemptuous of my work as a TV clown/presenter, it's a compliment that you remember it, let alone watch it in the first place. Weather you enjoyed it or not, memorable work is no bad thing.

I don't think anybody could say it wasn't informative to the subject matter. Playing the fool seems to come naturally to me (you may have noticed) so when applied to hosting a feature about a bunch of sensible bicycle enthusiasts in Issan, one does ones best to make it memorable.
