    Should I help someone?

Just seen in the paper a picture of some stranded people at Swampy airport.
I feel so bad for the ones with no cash left and are dossing there just waiting for info with nothing else much to do.
I live very close to the airport and have a big gaff with 2 fully furnished spare bedrooms and a bathroom that never get used unless guests stay or a mate gets pissed.
Should I drive to Swampy and see if anyone needs help?
How would I approach people? It would seem very f**cking wierd to me if a stranger was offering help out of the blue!
I don't care if it's a couple of (non-smelly) backpackers or a small family just as long as they are native english speakers.
The last sentence seems very racist, but for communication/cultural purposes this would seem the logical way to go.
I don't want nothing in return, just thinking that I have all this space that could be of use to somebody right now.
    What do you think?
How would I go about "inviting" a couple of stranger that need help my house?
Or am I just mad (like missismiggins) and should forget about the idea?
Quick replies would be helpful, 'cos if I'm gonna do it then it will be in the next few hours.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Very generous offer BO. If i were a passenger then maybe i would think twice about being offered a room in someones house for a day or two if i didn't know them but then i'm not a backpacker with very little money.
It's worth a try and maybe an hour of your time, if it fails then at least you'll be sleeping ok tonight knowing that you did at least offer.

They bought their tickets. They should have prepared. Serves them right.

Very caring of you but be very careful.

I would ask a couple with a child or an elderly couple.

    Good one mate.

I would define myself as a generous person but inviting strangers into your home should be done with extreme caution. If it were me, I would be looking for a young family, their general appearance and behavior. This can only be done if you take the time to assess their acceptability. Approaching to get them to accept the invite will also take a bit of finesse on your part. Suggest you start with a casual conversation about the whole airplane mess and once you have built up a rapport, offer an invitation to stay at your place. Important you bring your wife if possible.

    Just for the record.....
I'm an everday dude with no religious undertones or ulterior motives.
Just got this feeling that I can help in a small way.
All I'm doing at the moment is typing here, so why not go out and do something good?

If you're willing to help you can't pick and choose those you want to help.
Help them all or don't bother

Whilst your intention is both generous and genuine, I think most people (couples or families) would be a little 'spooked' by your approach. I know I'd feel a little weird if a complete stranger in 'scary Thailand' approached me at the airport and offered me to come stay with them at their house.

Maybe an approach through some sort of 'official' channel rather than a direct approach may be better? Maybe the information counter can advise you on how you can help some family or couple? Perhaps they can point you to some place that's offering assistance to stranded passengers and introduce you to people in need of a room?

Anyhow, you're intentions are admirable and I wish you the best.

In line with what filch has said, maybe you should contact your Embassy. They'll no doubt have been inundated with requests for assistance.

Agreed, but make sure the mum is reasonably fit. You may as well get some enjoyment out of it by having a nice view.

Just leaving the door and have revised my plans by reading the last few posts (especially filch).
It does seem a bit too much to invite stranger to my home (not just for me, but for them too).
Decided some nice food, cool drink and some different conversation may raise somebodies spirts.
So I'm gonna pop down there and see who's hungry!

Try to find someone with big tits.

Perhaps a pair of Icelandic blonde twins who haven't had a shower for awhile and are very dirty, (covered in volcanic ash) and need a shower, and they're so dirty that that they need you to help scrub their knockers.

    Very nice gesture indeed.

My mate is stranded here with his two young girls; he's due to fly back tomorrow.

I 've just returned from the embassy for some personal info and got chatting to 3 couples. There flights have been delayed until the 10th of May but they're out of cash. Not sure what the embassy can do or their insurance company. Plenty of credit card extentions on the way i think.

Why do you have "Dr" in your nik?

Surely, you are not a doctor.
