I should really get a telescope phone mount, seeing as they're on Lazada for about 60 baht.

Maybe I'll be lucky at Hannukah and a family member will splash out.

Advisable to get an entry level brand name, as opposed to an unnamed Chinese one. Orion Skyscanner are good for kids.

    Yup.

กล้องดูดาวสะท้อนแสง Orion SkyScanner 100mm TableTop Telescope

12k baht, and should be okay for kids starting out.

But be warned, telescopes are like motorbikes and women. You will always want more. More. MORE!

I woke up and opened the window to find a strange noise coming from the garden. It sounded like the water tank pump was running and there was a water spraying noise, and to be sure, yes, the hose trigger had popped off in the night when I forgot to turn the garden tap off and the tank had been pumping itself empty for hours.

Thank fooks... the tank is still half full. And it also means I get to do a more thorough investigation of what lies beneath since it is only waist deep now instead of neck deep.

Once more into the tank dear friends, or close the hole up with our possums dead

I found several old bones in the tank so obviously my dead possum was not the first creature to somehow get in

I read somewhere that wrinkly pinkies is an evolutionary adaptation that improves our underwater tactility and gripping ability.

The Thao To Waterfall park is a small area of mixed deciduous forest on the hillside below the main road to Udon Thani. This being the dry season there is no waterfall. There is still a small stream, there are no mosquitoes, it is cool enough to walk round and, most importantly, there is no one else there.

Very peaceful. Only birds and butterflies. The former are all up around the tree canopy and very difficult to see. The butterflies are currently abundant but too shy to get close enough for pictures.

    Post a photo a week, of anything/anywhere-bfly-jpg
There are probably 20 butterflies flying by the water's edge in this picture. Too challenging for my camera phone.

There is an amazing range of trees. Most people are 'tree blind', they just see trees without knowing or enquiring about what they see. Here someone has taken the time to label a lot of the different trees. There is no guide I can find to how many are labelled. (In the best traditions of Kew Gardens, each with a couple of big nails.) This tree is a Wild Almond and the number says 167, so maybe there are about 200 labelled trees.

I've never seen so many butterflies as when I was working up on the mountain just south of Udon. And on night shift I'd never seen so many moths.

Our youngest has the flu so we all need to get tested . . . drive-in testing, results within 24-48 hours and free, of course.

Thank you - she'll be right.

No covid around here for months and months - only Auckland has a few cases and we got out by lockdown time on the week-end.

    Not buried deep enough.
No yellow plastic stripe 50 cm before getting down to the cable.

Anyway, no big deal, there are people doing nothing else during their work day than splicing fiber.
Someone has to keep them occupied..

It used to be difficult. I remember an ad about 40 years ago. A company invented a splicing tool that was so easy to use that their CEO could do it after a short introduction. At least that is what their ad claimed.

They don't eat them. They just stand guard over them til they die and off then to get a new one. The lizards are 'Butterfly Lizards'. Plenty around here in the cassava fields.

The Minx managed to wobble of the driveway during the rain and carve a ditch on the uphill side of the slab. This is despite the driveway being 2.4m wide and her camry having a mere 1.5m track.

    Post a photo a week, of anything/anywhere-img_20210318_190008-jpg

This saved me some work as I was planning to dig a ditch on that side to channel rainwater towards the drain pipe that runs under the concrete.

Just need to connect up her landscaping work with the drain entrance...

    Post a photo a week, of anything/anywhere-img_20210318_191611-jpg

Now I got storm water running into the drain.
