Read in the papers a while back that songbirds are becoming rarer in the wild in Thailand on account of many being taken from their nests and put in cages for the pleasure of their owners. Apparentl a good singer can change hand for several thousand baht.

In front of our house no nest is safe if it is in one of the trees as the growing number of bird fanciers testifies.

Out of shot are more cages and today I counted a total of 33 . Their owners sit for several hours watching their birds and exchanging tips on how to get the birds to sing.
