The beach cleaning needs tonbe every weekend and often weekdays, year round. So I formed a community interest company and employ a beach cleaner. We also organise our own volunteer events and facilitate others' beach cleans with our equipment.
I have recently widened the scope to include residential streets where inconsiderate beach visitors park and litter. One elderly lady returned from her husband's funeral two years agonto find a soiled nappy thrown into her front garden. We now have our own community street and beach cleaner.
The local council pays lip service to saying they appreciate what we do. I think they despise me for it. It showcases their inefficiency. They insist we submit risk assessmemts and public liability insurance - which I do.
surplus cash is used tonhelp rewiding on a patch of neglected council land which I hope to expand on. Approx 1/3 of an acre we have cut, scarified, sewn native wild flower seeds, planted 64kg of bulbs, 20 + heritage fruit trees and numerous soft fruit bushes. It's set to become a community mini orchard. I love it! We have maintain three mown paths through the land. You see people detouring to show their kids the flowers and collect for pressing etc.
