Wow! Really garish, a real difference in culture there, do people put them outside their houses or at the funeral site? Cheers.

    That's someone's house.

Actually, it must be someone important, because they are all large company's (eg the first one Sriwajaya is an airline company)

i shoulda googled first. slightly wrong, they grew up in Thailand., not born there.

Jonas and Christy “The farang’s (foreigners) who love Thailand with a heart for lookthung”. That is the title that has been affixed to this unique pair of blonde-haired and fair-skinned Europeans who not only sing fluently in Thai but have embraced as their own the complex and intricate style of singing known as lookthung.Even though this traditional and uniquely Thai genre of music whose name literally means “child of the fields” has its origins in the rural areas of Thailand, yet similar to American “country and western” music, it is hugely popular all over the country and is beloved by a wide cross section of fans of all ages and from all levels of society.

Jonas and Christy have devoted themselves to singing lookthung in order to offer their support in highlighting the beauties of Thai culture. They deeply appreciate the customs and way of life of this country that they have chosen as their home and feel privileged to learn about its rich culture and fascinating arts.

Jonas and Christy, whose families moved to Thailand when they were small, have worked together musically since their teen years, first taking part in a performing arts course together and then forming a music group along with other friends performing extensively all over Thailand at numerous venues ranging from charity and social events, to evening functions using a wide repertoire of original and well-known songs in a variety of styles.

Since becoming professional singers in the lookthung industry, Jonas and Christy have enjoyed an enduring and wide-spread acceptance among fellow professionals and fans alike both at the local level in rural areas of Thailand, as well as on the national stage, and even among Thais living abroad. They have toured extensively both within Thailand as well as overseas filling up concert halls and open air venues from Chicago to Chiang Mai, Anchorage to Zurich.

Besides producing numerous albums between them they have also hosted TV shows, featured in advertisements, and appeared in guest roles for sitcoms and TV dramas. Due to their unique attributes as foreigners who speak and sing in Thai, as well as of course English, they are often called upon to join in Thai cultural promotion locally and internationally helping to bridge the gap between east and west.

Now a word from Jonas and Christy themselves: “We want to offer our heartfelt thanks to the Thai people and all our fans, first of all for your warm acceptance and reception of us as foreigners for the many years we have grown up in this beautiful country, and also for your fantastic support of us as lookthung singers. We feel deeply indebted to you all for your appreciation of our efforts to sing in Thai and for staying true as genuine and enduring fans. We owe a lot to you, and promise to give you our best at the highest level possible. We hope you will continue to allow us to learn more about your gracious culture and wonderful music.”

Jonas Anderson is Swedish, Christy Gibson Dutch, not sure if they were born here but they grew up in korat in a religious commune. been singing ten years, she is a better singer than he is, especially morlam. Very friendly anyway which gains them a lot of respect. never spoken to her before yesterday although i have seen them scores of times, very nice lady.
The above article does not mention that their love of Thailand and its culture does not go as far as Buddhism as they are both still members of the family or as it was previously known the children of god. I always wonder what visas they have as they are permanent residents.

Not as far as I know but then such things are usually kept quiet in the music world for fear of alienating fans, everyone is single apparently!

Is that what they call it 'Pattaya 2' or is that a local joke?
Is that the Mekong? Nice idea though and looks like a good way to pass the day.

    ^No, it is for real

They have real roadway information signs along the roadway stating how much further Pattaya 2 is.

Not along any river,…it’s a reservoir. Not to far from the shoreline you still see trees (dead) rising up out of the water.

Propagator made a few posts about Pattaya 2 here:

I like how you order you food there. You when sit down, they will give you a menu (with a telephone number on it) and you call it in. Few minutes later you have your order,………..Thai takeout.

Thanks for the explanation, this Rob was wondering, too. That "takeout" system sounds great.
