Back at work here but at least the haze has lifted after months and the mountains are now visible again. The rains have also arrived and it's nice to lose the 40 degrees Celsius temp behind

Apparently they are released for good luck before being caught again so the process can be repeated. Wouldn't want to be the one to have to plunge my hands into the basket of anger, beak and talons.
When in NZ I saw this small hedgehog, showed it to Mrs O'Graph she says there's a Thai version, but that they've probably all been eaten ... not something I've seen here

There are 2 actually both porcupines, this is one, they are reasonably common in some forests.

We've been to her relatives' farm, north of us, near Sa Kaeo and Chachoengsao borders, she says that in earlier days she went there was more wildlife, hedgehogs, deer, birds she reckons are the brahminy kites we get here in Chanthaburi/Trat (I thought only coastal?) plus wandering elephants - still get the occasional pachyderm on walkabout but the rest, gone. Either farmed out or eaten out of existence.

How do you find it in terms of dirt, poor infrastructure and everything else? Is it a hard place to live day to day life, or are creature comforts not that difficult to find?
It's sometimes a tough town to deal with, no doubt about that. Much of it is absolutely filthy and hygiene standards are near non existent. I know 3 teachers who came down with Hep A in another school last year. If you get really sick you better pray you are in good enough shape to survive the flight to BKK. My school offers emergency evacuation to Bangkok and 200USD up front for a trip to the hospital. Pennies, really and you'd be a fool not to have insurance.Quote:
