Thread: What ever happened to Big John's Pies?

He used to have a backpacker hostel/restaurant/bar on Thonglor soi 9 and you could often see him dropping off his pies at Villa Market's in the area.

I don't see his pies in Villa anymore and I often pass by where his hostel/restaurant/bar was on Thonglor soi 9 used to be (no longer).

Anyone know where he's gone?

I think you'll find the man was not the most popular poster here, so don't expect a lot of positive comments...might get a better response over on the teacher's forum...

I have eaten a fair few of his pies, but in the end couldn't stomach them anymore, they were pretty shit really.

I figured some of the guys here might know him.

I wasn't a fan or a hater, and not really looking for positive comments. Just curious to know where he's disappeared to as I was going past his old place this evening and the thought struck me.

I occassionally picked up one of his pies - agree with you kfjv, not the best pies, but filled a hole if you fancied a snack.

Didn't he move to Soi 1?

I know he tried to rip me off once, his staff were retarded even by Thai standards and he was a miserable bastard, but I had a few good evening there with Wally & Pooly in bygone times.

By the way the best pies I have ever eaten were from the shop at the Johannesberg Airport terminal in South Africa.

Best pies I ever ate were made by my Grandma, she made the crusts with leaf lard and the filling was her own home canned or fresh Huckle Berries or Apples or the very best were her home made mince meat with lots of beef and some apples and citron and raisins, and her mince meat cookies were out of this fucking world.
She used 2 quarts of mince meat for 1 pie, then put lots of thick clobbers of fresh cows cream on it and bust a gut.
I ate something from AU. that I bought up in CM at rim ping out of the freezer that was supposed to be Pies from Australia,, I don't know what the fuck they were supposed to be, but farthest thing I have ever seen from a PIE, except it did have 2 crusts and nothing in the middle cept some gravy kind of shit.

Ozzie pies in OZ are generally good, a Mrs Macs after a long day traveling is an orgasm in itself, but i brought a pie in Pattaya from the "great aussie pie Co" what a piece of shit, no meat just some kind of congealed possum spunk in pastry.

I don't wish him ill, and I appreciate pp's comments re: running a business and so on, but surely half the reason his staff were retarded had to be his management, staff are as only as good or bad as you allow them to be.
