apparently quite famous in vintage car circles.

'The engineering aspect of these cars is very important,' says Mr Baylis, who was working
with auction house Christie's in the late-1980s when it sold a 1931 Bugatti Type 41
Royale for a world record price the equivalent of US$10 million. 'I'm against collectors
who don't use them - but it is becoming increasingly difficult in Singapore.'
As the car’s owner of the past 47 years – automobile engineer and noted Alfa Romeo restorer David Baylis, observes: “We can surmise that with the second World War approaching, Stiles had these items lying surplus in his stores, and wished to capitalize upon them…”. Fred Stiles had by that time been replaced as Alfa Romeo’s UK concessionaire by Thomson & Taylor Ltd, of Brooklands, and in effect was intent upon capitalizing as many of his remaining Alfa Romeo effects as possible. Angela Cherrett recalls being told that documentation connected with the car did state “Stiles Special Alfa Romeo built from spare parts” and that it was first registered in 1938. There is no record of the car in the Alfa Romeo (British Sales) Ltd sales records, but this is perfectly understandable since Fred Stiles plainly assembled the car in later years, and initially for his own use.

we did have some fun on the radios trying to dodge the customs planes from time to time.
We did everything up there, medical runs, medivacs, landing on ships transfering pilots, telecoms, fisheries and even slung a coffin out to Stephens island one time cos would not fit in the back.
My favourite passtime was travelling between darnley and that other one up near png...forget name now....but the huge long reefs were stomping grounds for Pap trochus and slug fisherman....we would get down to 10 feet above the water and buzz then as they walked along the reef.
funny was watching them nose dive onto the reef at the last minute.

Got some more reef shots if you wanna see them...and island stuff from the straits...

Would love to see some pics from the islands and straits, have worked with a few trochus and slug fishermen over the years and can imagine them shitting pineapples as you gave them a buzz cut.
Great pix Nawts, keep 'em coming!
Nice thread Nawty, keep it coming!

Ok, as menioned before....the original homestead was drowned by the rising dam waters....here it is somewhat damp inside now..
My ol grandad worked from daylight till dark, every day of his life pretty much.
And he was very adaptive to change....here, instead of letting his beloved shearing shed drown...he moved it up onto the hill above the lake...
One of the first colour photos to come out of the area....not sure if that is me or my older brother on the horse...
Grandad was in the paper fishing from a telephone line pole when the waters rose....and I forgot about a famous relative we had in the family....we had a knight in the family.....royalty we might be of noble blood and all....Sir James was his name..
A team of horses at the shearing shed, loading up sacks of wool I think. Not sure if our team or an outside transport mob....
A line up of nice old cars....would be good to have 1 or 2 of them now.
Who knows what the gathering was for...maybe a social dance...or footy match....

The dame at the back looks like aunty jack and she could rip ya bloody arms orf.....the baby is I think an aunty, sister of the other girl to the left.
the 2 boys bottom and left are brothers, think grannies brothers. the boy at the back to the right is my grandad...
My grandad again,...they even had trick photography around then..
great granny again..
These are 2 aunties....would have made handsome men.....they lived into their late 90's.....they had a group of pet kangaroos on their farm that used to come in to the house every afternoon for afternoon tea...
this was the local pub.....my grandparents owned and ran it at some stage in its lifetime....this version of the hotel was burnt down at some stage and then rebuilt and still stands today...
