I would imagine, he may be worse off if he was to fly home to make some $$ there. That's why he have decided to make this choice.
I wonder...How many farangs in thailand who are in the same predicament.

Quite a few and a lot more worse off...need a thread on this some time. I've met some right "sorts".
I say fair play to him. I wouldn't want to do it, but if he's making a good living and supplying a good product, then all power to him.

I wonder how many Thai people are in Western countries claiming public funds from the government, even though they get given equal opportunities to the natives, unlike Westerners in Thailand.Originally Posted by mooncake

Bloody good luck to him is what I say, he's got the balls to do what it takes to survive here where many others would pack up and head home.
Respect man
^^ I'm sure there are much less than hispanics or mexicans, percentage wise
Or as is the case for a few I've met, sink into alcoholism and scrounge off of the charity of freelancers along Sukhumvit. More than a few like that...!
They are just degenerates, usually easily spotted, I don't give em the time of day
Yeah, but they don't leave me alone when I'm sat minding my own business late at night. They always come and bloody talk to me. Lots of other farangs to choose from, but I always get them! Then out comes the sob story....looking for a free drink...
Not easy if you attract more than your fair share of them, you must have a kind face.
I usually get up and go to another chair or another bar, you just cant let yourself be engaged in conversation with them coz once they see an opening they latch like a hungry baby.

Bill did have all the things most teenage boys desire-a go-cart, a motorbike, his own car. And he felt proud that he had earned the money to buy these things himself. As I mentioned, he got his start selling newspaper ads, and he started his own advertising agency working out of the living room of his parents' house. Later, when go-cart racing became popular in Thailand, he convinced the editor of the Bangkok World to let him write a weekly go-cart column. His payment was half of the ads he could sell. After a couple months, he was making more most reporters.
To further add to his income, he began cleaning offices at night. He noted that businessmen around town complained about erratic office cleaning crews. So he started a professional janitorial service. He hired a couple workers, printed a few dozen cards and set up a company."I used to sell ads, work at my advertising company after I got home, and in the evening I would go around and help my workers clean offices," he recalls.
"Friends would often see me washing cleaning a window or something. I was a regular laugh-in." Bill knew he was on the right track, and success was within easy reach, but he needed to raise more money to invest, He couldn't go to his father. But he could race. If he could win a couple of races he could pump his winning into his business ventures.
He sells very near the police station in the mornings, they even buy off him, small town mentality, nobody really gives a toss..Originally Posted by nigelandjan
He may not be making a fortune, but the simplicity of runing his own little food stall in a part of the world he obviously wants to be in probably makes him happier than most.
I envy him, in a way.
I would still prefer to go home and work in woolworths packing shelves at night for the ridiculous wage they get these days.....i could work my way up to supervisor packer....

Might be fun Nawty but for me, and knowing my luck I probably would be packing my buckets.Originally Posted by Nawty

It is possible for a foreigner to have a work permit to be employed by his wife/her husband in her/his registered business (not a company). I was looking into it a while back and had the theory confirmed by a couple of accountants but did not take it any further so cannot quote any details.
Fair play to the guy anyway, if he's happy and solvent then I almost envy the simplicity of his life.
