After a dinner of grilled prawns and corn on the cob, it is time to play cards in Thailand. No need to use the dining table, the floor will work perfect.
The object of this card game is get 2 cards that total 9.

Kuhn Tam was a monk for almost 12 years. Now he is a Thai teacher. I have know him for many years, heck of a guy.
Gambling with 5 baht per hand does add to the excitment!
I tried to teach them the game of In between the sheets. Didn't work. We were soon back to the Issan game of 9.
Overall, an excellent way to spend time with friends.

You do realise that if you weren't at a funeral you were breaking the law.....Of course you knew that already.
Good fun but unfortunately for a lot of people here is the cause of much grief. For many Farang as well.
Yeh we get into the card games a bit at home but just have a heap of small change that we dish out and return after the game,
A good game is tens were you get 5 cards and pick up one and throw out one to the next player who can pick it up or pick from the pile, the winner is the one that gets there hand into pairs that add up to 10.
Killer is also a good Thai game but a little more complicated but still easy to learn
We play at the front of the shop and never had a problem, But guess as we arent gambling as such they dont really care. There are some hi stake games going on most days in the village, a mate just had to bail out his wifes 500,000 baht debt to get a land paper for her 3 to 4 million baht house back, atleast he made her sign over a 30 year lease to him. He never built the house the first husband didOriginally Posted by Bung

Classy.
That should read most days in most villages. They are complete idiots when it comes to gamblingOriginally Posted by Rigger
Our bunch play a lot of cards, especially when family is up from Bangkok. All night sessions are quite regular- their favourite is a kind of Rummy, but with some unfamiliar Thai rules. And while they don't gamble [of course], they do strategically park the pickup so that they can't be seen from the track.
They're bluddy at it now actually- Mrs sabs sister is off back to Bangkok tonight, so last chance for a while.
they guy next to us recently lost a block of flats and the wooden house his son lived in
the son has gone off to be a monk now
Never let them gamble, or you will be.
The Midget doesn't gamble as she's seen too many people get into a big hole from it. She does put 100B on some numbers in the village lottery once every 2 or 3 months though.
There isn't anything funny about gambling, except showing that some people like to form a circle. And it shows some have too much time on their hand.
Looks like you were playing strip poker and the girl with the cushion has not had much luck with the cards.
